Project Cars Season 3 Round 5-6
Posted on Thursday 16th June at 3:43 PM

So far the season has provided us with all kinds of twists and turns and the next few rounds only looks to turn the drama and action levels up, with the Endurance round and also the penultimate race of the season being featured in today’s article, I’d recommend tightening those seat belts, because the following rounds are going to be totally radical. Spa-Francorchamps is a fan favourite worldwide for motorsports enthusiasts, and Zhuhai is a unique circuit that the drivers will certainly need to adapt to with its unique demands. This, is the Project Cars League for rounds four and five.

Division 1 right now is being dominated by Samsung1998Racer and the Endurance round proved to be no different. A slow start dropping to third meant little as he made his comeback through the Belgian forest to add a third win to his campaign. VH_Mik hung on well after his lightening start and found himself second on the podium ahead of the next Div 1 runner on track, The_Spectre_au
.

Samsung1998Racer Qual P1 Race P1:
With Clint not here I thought tonight would be pretty relaxing........WRONG. Somehow Mr Albert was running similar lap times to me but I got lucky and managed to snag pole due to an error from Beau. The start was odd, I expected to sail off over the hill but Beau managed to hang with me. Vh obviously purchased the crazy start DLC because after sneaking in between Beau and Myself VH was already 2 car lengths ahead. Deciding to strike early, I put a move on Beau into Les Combes but after a rather impressive slide I didn't have the momentum to stay on the outside, Beau dropped a wheel over the kerb thinking I was still holding onto the position but he hit the kerb and spun. I focused on VH but after he took a trip to the sand at stavelot I had a pretty comfortable lead. Lap 17 I chose to pit with about an 18s lead. With fresh tires I pressed on but didn't really gain much time on the 2 leaders, yet once Beau pitted I was stressing because although he was 25s behind, the gap dropped to 24 so I activated Samsungtec and managed to extend the lead to 29s before Beau DCed. The rest of the race was pretty relaxed, so I used the time to try and get the fastest lap (I was even considering pitting again to get fresh tires) and the best I could manage was a 02:12:295 but on 2 occasions I could have been in the 11s but traffic became an issue. After almost being wiped out by Spectre i tried to give him his spot back so he could chase down 4th and also so I could get a toe but I ended up loosing about 10s to VH but coming home with a comfortable 1m22s lead.

Next up, was Zhuhai and the result wasn’t much different as Clint’s absence for the second week in a row allows Samsung1998Racer to claim championship glory when he crossed the line for his fourth win of the season, and arguably his hardest fought of the season after some early errors, he had to fight back through the field. Anthony came second with Zuluwoffle coming third after unfortunate circumstances.

Samsung1998Racer Qual P1 Race P1:
With some personal stuff going on, i wasn't really worried about my result (also did absolutely no practice). I spun on lap 1 trying to keep the sand bagging kiwi bro behind me and i rejoined the track in 7th. Mad at myself for my rookie mistake I tried my best to catch back up to the top group but after getting up to 3rd I managed to screw myself over AGAIN. I got back past the two battling in front, but by this point the second place car was already miles ahead and Slambo was even further away. The 1st place overall was basically gone, but i put my head down, caught second place, passed and then tried to close my 11 second gap to slambo but he decided to pit not long after. The rest of my race consisted with me doing extremely low 29's mistake free and pitting on the start of the final lap. I screwed up the pit lane entry bad, and lost about 3s in the pits but somehow.........somehow I managed to come out in-front, creep around on overheated tires and take the win......somehow!

With the championship now sewn up for Samsung, he can head into the final round at Watkins Glen with a bit more ease and soak up the incredible season he has had thus far.

Division 2 joined forces with Division 1 to create an ultra-quick room despite an unfortunate lack of numbers, but those in the secondary division showed no less pace and held strong against the Division 1 drivers, but none stronger than Stuart170773 as he takes win number three for Season three ahead of Slambobagan who ran the alternative strategy of a two stop, and did lead Stu convincingly initially. ADZA_85 brang his car home in P3 for his third podium of the season.
Stucar17 Qual: P6 overall Race: P1
Thanks for the race the other night lads. Was good having a fullish grid, certainly made things more interesting.
Wasn’t sure how i would go, but qualified 6th i think, slambo i thought was quite a bit quicker so was hoping for a podium.
Once the race got underway i was lucky to just miss the carnage behind me on the first lap.....settled into my rhythm and had jim closing in on me and we had a great battle for about 15 odd laps. When Beau caught up after his lap 1 shenanigans i decided to let him go and have a go at chasing down the other div 1 guys....jim too full advantage and went past as well ! Took about 3 laps, but got him on the straight, lap 15 he DSC.......shame was a good battle and super clean.
Adza cruised up on the back of me in the dark and we had a great little battle, we both pitted on lap 17, and bugger me he came in 2 secs behind, and left 3 secs ahead.....spewing ! SLowly made ground, before he pitted again, so once again everything seemed to open up for me, had no idea where slambo was, and was resigned to 2nd until i found myself in 3rd with VH and samsung ahead of me....Was happy to get a podium and win our class. Bit of a claytons championship lead given the size of the grid, but can only race those around you. Respect to Adza and Jim, buggered if i know why guys can’t race side by side, but we went lots of laps with hard racing and no contact, was enjoyable.

Leading the race overall for a long time after scoring the overall pole position, it was Slambobagan who held on to the race win for Division 2 at Zhuhai after adjusting his strategy on the fly when he made an error, perhaps costing him the overall win as well. Jim_aka_the_man took P2 at the Chinese circuit whilst ADZA adds a third place to his podium tally for the season.

Slambobagan Qual P1 Race P1:
yeah good race, surprised to get outright poll with Samsung in the room, was abit lonely but that's ok when you’re out in front, first lap was the most eventful trying to hold the div 1s behind me, they seemed to have made a mistake and lost it and that was the last I saw of anyone for a while just punched out consistent laps, had about a 10 sec gap over Ao cleaner, when he got passed by Sammy I saw the gap getting smaller so I decided to pick it up a little only to spin last corner into pit lane unintentionally but made my stop, carried on but lost a lot of pace nervous about spinning again, I eventually got my Rythem back and was doing easy 29s maintained a healthy 20sec gap back to jim, I was expecting Sammy to come out in front after his pit still happy to come 2 sec behind him.
Next track is awesome looking forward to the final round

A troubled race from Stucar leaves the door open for Slambo to take advantage as they head to the US for Watkins Glen for the final round.

Sitting on the grid staring down Eau Rouge, waiting for those lights to illuminate is always one of the most tense moments when ROOZ visits Belgium, however in Division 3, Zharvs92 held his nerve and took an outstanding win in less than 90 minutes for the Endurance round, leaving v8power383 and SPL_Racing left hopelessly chasing his taillights once again this season.

Zharvs92 Qual P1 Race P1:
Quall on pole. Got another great start. Just pushed out lap after lap keeping my head down and my car straight for the first 3 quaters of the race. Built up roughly 20 secs on V8 before pitting on lap 25. Came out with fresh rubber and filtered through some lapped guys, then once V8 pitted i was still 20secs up so decided id try and push out a fastest lap with the sun back out. Span a couple times and ended the race roughly 15secs ahead.
SPL_Racing what a fastest lap that was mate. Well done.
Man, Spa was heaps of fun with the 24hr time settings.
See you all next week!

At the Chinese round of the season, SPL put his best foot forward and took a commanding victory by over half a minute ahead of polesitter Jasond1986. SPL_Racing taking the lead after hunting down Jason as he struggled out front with tyre pressures. Zharvs took out the final step on the podium.

SPL_Racing Qual P2 Race P1:
I'm so happy with my drive tonight, I qualified second to Jason who did a cracking lap for pole and got off the line well. I took it pretty easy on lap 1 just to keep it straight and went back to 4th place but soon got through and had to reel in Jason who was 10 seconds up the road.
I closed the gap and passed him and set about building a lead. When I came out of the pits my tyres were in the 135-140 degree range and glowing red so I nursed it home. Zharvs got to within a couple of seconds of me and I was sure that he still needed to pit but I fought hard to keep in front. When he finally pitted I was 30 seconds ahead and just cruised home for a comfortable win.
Congrats toZharvs92on fighting back for a podium andJasond1986for second place FL and Pole

Freddyp_33 is on a roll right now as he takes out the second hat trick in succession at Spa. He made pole position work well and set the fastest lap on route to beating Nathancarhead and Ryzza5 by close to a minute each.

Nathancarhead Qual P2 Race P2:
Well, that was long race, but a fun one at that.
Quali: P2, knew i didnt really have the pace in quali to get pole, so was just aiming for the front row, and thats what i got
Race: P2, Didn't start well for me. When i did my usual start procedure of jamming down on the handbrake and giving it some revs, i noticed my car seemed to be rolling forwards. This freaked me out a little and as a result i ended up taking my hand off the handbrake and rolling forwards to much only to give myself a jump start penalty. Came in end of lap 1 to serve my penalty, and then started the long and hard charge back the front where i belonged. Breezing by Bevo and Devil on lap 2 was the easy bit, became harder to get past Col as he defended well before i eventually got round him and then found myself reeling in Ryzza5. We had a bit of a back and forth battle as i would gain a few tenths here and there, and then he'd get them back at me through the twisty section. Managed to get round him once, only to throw it away about a lap later and re-gift him the position. Ryzza came in lap 22, and i spent a few more laps out in clear air trying to build a gap, in the process i had a half spin on lap 24 and decided my tyres had had enough i needed new rubber. Came in, field up, put on some new boots and off i went again, about 10 seconds behind Ryzza. By this point the night was clearing, and then fog was starting to become heavier. My tyre temps started to drop a little and i was just concentrating on keeping it on the road and keeping consistent lap times. Ended up being a train for most of the second half of the race, once the fog lifted, i found a lot more pace, but so did Freddy and Ryzza. By that stage, my plan was just to bring the car home in P3 and not do anything stupid. Fortunately for me Ryzza had a moment with 5 to go at Pouhon and i got round him, setting my fastest lap of the race in the process and managed to then extend my lead over Ryzza to almost 15 seconds and claim my thrid, second of the season (starting to think this is a sign i'm nothing but a #2 driver).
Hats off to freddyp_33on another very dominate race (must be getting boring out in front for you though), and congrats to Ryzza for also rounding out the podium.

It’s a hat trick of hat tricks in a row for Freddyp_33 as he takes his third consecutive 27 points haul, and fourth of the season. Nathancarhead beat Dev1lman_87 to second place half a minute behind Zharvs, despite running a reduced race distance. Unfortunatley celebrations for Freddy got a little crazy, and was unable to comment on the race. However i hope it's safe to say he is ecstatic, as he is now impossible to catch in the title race.

With only one round remaining, all eyes lock on to Division 2 and 3, as Slambobagan and SPL_Racing go in as underdogs, attempting to throw off championship elects Stucar17 and Zharvs92.
The biggest congratulations to Samsung1998Racer for taking out Division 1 and heading into the final round with a chance of beating the current most wins in a Division 1 season record of Four by Giant_Slayer48 and Beau_Albert. Meanwhile Freddyp_33 has already beaten all previous records in Division 4 and heads into the final round with the championship beyond locked up. He’ll be looking to make the record even tougher with another victory in the USA, where we will see you all next time, until next time….
