I've managed to get a dedicated server working for RaceRoom, will give it a test run on the weekend if anyone wants to race. Not sure how well it'll work, as it's only a free-tier Amazon server.
Will try and get the server up at 7:30pm AEDT tonight, jump in the ROOZ teamspeak around that time so we can determine what cars and tracks to run.
Forgot that the PCars league ran the same night as the GT6 league, was originally going to try to avoid a clash by running it earlier in the weekend, however I was out both last night and this afternoon. As no-one turned up tonight I didn't get to test the server, though I'll attempt again this coming Friday night at 8pm AEDT. The car/track combo will most likely be Sillhouettes and Aquila CR1s at Portimao (Algarve) - all free content.
RaceRoom currently have a sale at the moment where you can get any of the Essential Packs for 25% off their regular price, if you're looking to get into this sim I'd recommend the Premium Pack which includes all the current content in the game. Single cars and tracks are also on sale for 50% off each. The purchasing system is a bit convoluted with their vRP virtual currency, though the cheapest way to get it is through raceroomstore.com - the 7500vRP required for the premium pack works out at around $80AUD. If there is enough interest in this game I'd be keen to organise a league for it on here, probably on a Wednesday night to avoid clashes with the other leagues on here and other Australian RaceRoom communities.
Definitely stimulated my interest... am downloading now to have a play. Set up a Raceroom channel in discord, and added a dedicated prefix in the Community Events section.
Reckon I'll go for the Group 5 and Nurburgring to cover your upcoming event plan, plus the Starter pack as that's great value coming with 5 tracks and 10 cars at less than just the 5 tracks would cost to buy separately. That lot should come in at just under $30 AUD, so not too much to commit Might grab Bathurst as well, maybe Spa. Any other 'must have' recommendations @TheStig13 ?
The packs are a good place to start, the starter pack has a car for most of the popular classes. Outside of those I'd mainly recommend some tracks - Macau is probably the toughest track in simracing and it's quite well detailed visually, the Nordschleife is laser scanned and one of the better representations of the track (on par with AC's) and some of the smaller Swedish tracks are great in slower cars, my personal favourite being Knutstorp Ring which has crazy elevation change in the final corner. If you want to try out any car there is a test drive feature in the store, plus the time-trial competitions are another good way of sampling some content.
Gah so close! Nabbed the top spot a few days out from competition closing but just got pipped by the former leader at the 11th hour by just 0.006s! Was a fun combo. http://game.raceroom.com/competitions/826/leaderboard
