Alright I'm in Melbourne (near enough) so I'll let a Sydneysider recommend some other shops.

Hello everyone. Just for something different, here's my cheap build for older Sim Racers. Nothing too fancy:

CPU: Intel Xeon x5460 (with adapter sticker to work in a LGA775 motherboard)
    RAM: 8GB DDR2 (4X 2GB)
    GPU: ASUS Strix GTX950 2GB
Motherboard: ASUS P5-Ne SLI (with modified CPU socket and BIOS to work with LGA771 Xeon CPU)
    PSU: 500w
    HDD: 1TB Seagate

Runs Assetto Corsa at an average of 70+ FPS, 1080p everything maxxed out during online races . Best part is it cost less than the cost of a new Nvidia GTX1050Ti on it's own. Anyone else got what could be considered a "Scrapyard Wars" style PC build?

All of the used parts were from both eBay and Trade Me since I'm based in NZ. 771 to 775 mod instructions are here:
    http://www.delidded.com/lga-771-to-775-adapter/
Total cost including a Cooler Master case was around NZ$260. Just got lucky with prices on the bigger parts.

What's in your build? Almost moved to a EVGA x58 SLI board I got for free with a 6 core Xeon X5680 (Need to run Virtual Machines too). So far the board doesn't work so considering at least a Ryzen 5 1600 build.

I'd try to get an i5 CPU, but with a single 24" should run fine at 1080p with a 1060
The nice thing about AC on PC is you can drop eye candy like detail, shadow and smoke to keep fps at respectable levels.

Google cpu benchmarks and check ur cpu score. Obv higher the better, but can also gauge bang for buck. Also gpu will do a lot of the heavy lifting and IMO should be where your money is spent. If your in vic, check pccasegear and in qld, umart for components. My 2c

I think it'll be right on the minimum specs side... but then u can run this compatibility checker to test.

thank you. If i was to buy this for $ 700 then make some upgrades would that be better money wise than buying new you think.
