Key there IMHO is to not do this at the exit of a corner and never ease off while a car is directly behind you. Holding the line for backmarkers and letting the lapping car change lanes to show where they want to go is easier to deal with. A typical pass where both exit as normal then lapping car can get a small draft and pull out to another lane. The car ahead should simply hold its lane and not defend into the corner can just roll off throttle a bit sooner.

Some sections of track not much can be done and its better for car ahead to just run its line and let the pass happen later on next straight. Cars going off track or making random lane changes plus lifting on exits are the hardest to deal with and cost both cars more time plus higher risk of contact.

I dont know about others but if I see a car off track I lift off expecting they may come back across the track in a spin I dont want to tangle with. If they stay on track and mostly on line give the faster guys some credit to find the way past. Obviously with dirty air and different setups it may be possible to hold someone up that cant get inside 1 second even if they are quicker over a lap. At this point if they are there for a couple corners make a predicatabke move off line mid straight then if the other car stays in other lane lift off early for corner and let them have it. Thats the way it shouod be done in qualy to give the car on a hotlap its full line. But in the race lead cars may need to compromise line and pace to pass back markers.

One of the harder things last night was towards the end there was 2 lots of I think 2-3 cars fairly close approaching and picking when best to let all 3 through as if I did as suggest one may get thru, the other 2 might not or crash trying , abuse me for not letting him thru etc. TBH I heavily rely on Helicorsa to tell were you are and picking the spot to let you thru, typically I will pick a straight, hold my speed and depending on the spot in helicorsa, hold my current line and ease off or depending on the next corner move or not move, it's a case by case basis for me, but it is hard to pick and judge correctly and not screw ur own race. I also need to use the track map to see how many cars, how far away etc and am I holding them off long enuf to reach a safe point to let through,... actually come to think of it I put more effort into thinking bout all that than hitting brake markers half the time :). anyways thats a back markers perspective

this is also where realtime app comes in handy... shows you time wise how far cars are away, in these cars 1 second is ages and really if you are sub 0.5 seconds are you close enough to try for a slipstream if on a straight...

Thats always the trickier bit for both the guy getting lapped and the cars directly behind if there is 2 or more there. The guy 2nd or 3rd in line is licking his lips hoping to use traffic to his advantage. The guy leading is trying his best to not let traffic cost him time and the guy being lapped hoping none of the cars behind will hit him. Thats where predictable moves by the cars being lapped are crucial but still in such a situation things can go wrong easily.

Its pretty much the responsibility of all cars behind not to hit any cars ahead and in these situations if the first car needs to brake heavier then the 2nd or 3rd in line because the car being lapped does something unexpected may not see why and you get the typical concertina type crash.

If the guy being lapped can see lots of traffic coming behind they can try get out of the way as you would in qualy moving across way off line usually to the inside on a straight and let the others deal with it. In a corner just holding an outside line can also help let traffic past with minimal loss to all. If they lift too much then its possible the cars 2nd or more in line can pull out of a slip stream and directly into the car being lapped as happens quite often. So its always best to avoid driving too slowly on track if its possible to avoid it.

Here is the worst case scenario of a slow car on track hit by a car thats unsighted. However there really should never be a reason for a car undamaged to be so far off pace but many people slowing too much

I think watching some Nords 24hr onboards in heavy traffic can show how best for fast and slow cars to deal with traffic.

Flick through some of this, and see as they have to deal with slower traffic on such a tight fast track with very little room to pass cars most of the way around. The slower cars just try to hold whatever line they are on inside or out and let the faster guys past without effecting either car too much. They manage to make passes at any part of the track and as long as the slower cars don't do anything unexpected or turn in on cars inside or out they all continue on for 24hrs of madness at this place.

The main reason people want large numbers in servers is to have to deal with traffic, so don't let it scare you or put you off and over time everyone gets better with some more experience.

Didn't realise this was the last round, was kinda expecting a similar number of races to real F1. How long is it between seasons?

Seasons dates are set for all platforms I think, seems to be about the same amount of rounds each season.

Really hoping to make the last race but two monitors out of action and currently in for repair/replacement, plus half way through building a sim rig so PC pieces are everywhere. If I miss it, how long usually before a new season starts? Gonna be super keen now with the new rig :)

New season really depends on alignment with console leagues...
Still, happy to get a Fun Run comp going whilst we wait, was well received over Xmas/NYE break... we averaged about 10 with a few random's also joining in (had it open but only MR-A allowed to take part if not ROOZ)

Escort is my favorite little race car for a quick fang and slide around.
I always laugh my head off when I get that car sliding side by side with someone else.

@Anon666 sets up inbox conversations for each team at the start of the season and might have forgotten to add you as a late entry... I also recently added voice channels in discord for each team's use for race prep... channel entry permissions aren't restricted though so be up to individuals to monitor their audience :)

Nice work, thanks KoAStR! Discord team channel would be good for when we're doing setup testing etc, but back to one channel for race night for race instructions etc...

@Rolz is Monza going to be 49 laps or the full distance of 54 laps, 5 laps is only another 6 minutes or so. ;)

I really enjoyed Monday's race. Not running out of fuel was a small part of that. There's nothing like a little bit of redemption :).

I was a little off the pace of the front runners, but a consistent run and good fortune missing a few incidents got me home. During the week's prac my PB had me in about 10-11th (of those in the championship) and I just couldn't quite crack the 14's. In qualy it was clear that grip wasn't increasing much so I didn't expect a PB at 98% track grip. I did manage a couple of clean laps to end up 9th so I felt I'd maximised my qualy.

My start was decent and staying out of trouble was the main focus, while hopefully not falling back. Coming out of the T2-T3 in the pack a fast starting Carlos sailed on by down the straight. At the hairpin I was lucky not to be hit from behind (others weren't so lucky) but later in the lap I lost a spot to Aaron who had some early pace. After the first lap I was in 10th but with no damage and plenty of the race to make up some spots. I found myself right on the tail of Marty who'd clearly not had a perfect lap 1. I could do no more than be an annoyance in his mirrors though and soon he pulled a gap.

At the hairpin on lap 3 I found a backwards facing Vanzr and a slow moving Shaun which was a shame to see. I snuck through fortunately and carried on. Low downforce jlynn was on my tail though and we had a decent battle - until I went a touch wide at T12 and lost 2 spots. So I was STILL in 10th spot. It may have been a blessing in disguises as it seems the 3 cars ahead of me (Mr.McG, jlynn & Aaron) all ended up having mishaps through the race and ended up behind me. For most of the first stint I tried to chase down Aaron while holding off jlynn. Late in the stint Aaron unfortunately spun at the hairpin gifting me a spot, but jlynn was glued to my wing till I pitted on lap 17. After nearly spinning out on pit entry I exited the pits in 8th.

After all the pitstops I found myself in a surprising 6th and now Aaron, jlynn & Mr.McG were behind me trying to find a way past. Shaun was also there mounting his recovery and I watched the realtime app with interest as all 4 seemed to swap positions like they were hot potatoes! As a result they were no threat to me and I stayed in 6th to the finish. I picked up the consistency point again this week which is handy as last week's one will probably be part of my drop round.

Great result for teamy Rolz to take out the win!! Congrats to Mesafto and Gozilla for the podium. Hopefully the championship can be decided cleanly at Monza next week :).
