I'll be honest, I don't like the different cars each round idea.
The series for me is interesting enough with the tuning and full damage.
The different cars approach seems like a "in between" series idea for the sunday league or similar.

From the first series I loved:
    The two car classes.
The requirement to split the team into the car classes.
The full tune and full damage.
The standard 80 minute race length and then the 2 odd hour real endurance events.
The points being for teams only and not for any driver championship.

I do like the idea of having open classes, but to have close and competitive racing we need a class of cars that are evenly matched.

It is also fairly important for 1 class to be faster than the other, I would say at least 5 seconds a lap around a typical length track.

If we are going to run Le Mans then we will want cars that aren't too slow in a straight line.

What happened to the original idea of the three different Porsches?

If the plan is to stick with the different cars, perhaps instead of a Porsche, Ferrari or Renault round we could do a German, Italian, British etc rounds. So you could do an 80 minutes of Imola but have car options from Pagani, Ferrari, Lamborghini. For the German round do the 80 mins around Hockenheim with Porsche, BMW, Audi and so on. Each team could choose the respective cars they want to run.

So far these are all just ideas, the Porsches should work well around most tracks, although the Cayman might feel a bit slow around Le Mans. I did some lap time comparisons between them around Laguna Seca, the 962C was around 1:16, 911 around 1:23 and Cayman around 1:29. So they certainly won't be tripping over eachother. The 911 does does work the rear tyres quite a bit, but managing that can make for a good strategic element.

LMP900 testing @ Le Mans: (all cars have a 90 litre tank)
    Bentleigh 3:29
    Toyota 3:30
    Audi 3:33
    BMW 3:33
    Ferrari 3:38
Obviously a two horse race at LeMans but the Audi was 2 seconds quicker then the Toyota at Bathurst so I'm thinking for parity Le Mans could be a stand alone event for car choice. Over the rest of the tracks we've driven this year I think the Audi would compete.
The prob with this class & say only running the Toyota & Bentleigh at LeMans is the lack of different liveries, you'd be in a red or green car (you BBB guys 'd be fooooked)
As a comparison, the Sauber C9 (Group C) laps at 3:22 after minimal setup work & it's got loads of liveries

I think from memory there's 2 classes that are very close between car in default set ups (GT3s/GT4s) but testing would need to be done in tuned rooms to see what can be done with each car in the class, we could even look at some of the stronger cars being only available for the lower division driver to even things out

Some lap time data I collected a few weeks ago at red bull ring. All had quick tune of suspension for good balance.
    Group A:
    • Merc: 1:42.007 (good fuel economy, slightly worse than the BMW)
    • BMW: 1:42.320 (best fuel economy)
    • Sierra: 1:39.727 (boost turned up to 100%, gonna need it's own fuel truck for a 2 hour race)
    • GTR: 1:36.83 (boost turned up, not quite as bad fuel wise as the Sierra)
    • Audi: 1:39.14 (middle of the road fuel economy wise, maybe a bit closer to the Merc and BMW than to the boosted cars)
    LMP900:
    • Ferrari: 1:22.805 (worst on fuel)
    • Toyota: 1:21.966 (good on fuel, marginally behind the Audi and Bentley)
    • Audi: 1:20.380 (best on fuel)
    • Bentley: 1:21.195 (just slightly behind the Audi on fuel)

Is Monaco a track option? Could prove to be a pretty brutal race for some people, myself included!
Not sure if the multi class thing would work with the overtaking but still might be interesting.

At this stage I think the LMP900 is a leading contender for the faster class with at least 3 strong car choices. The lower class is tougher, Group A will be dominated by the Nissan and Audi which are both DLC, so may only be viable if these cars are restricted.

Just did some testing in a few of the GTO class cars: Porsche 961, Ferrari F40 and the Mustang. Could be a good option for the slower car along side the LMP900. The default setups certainly need some work, but the 3 I tested I was able to get pretty similar lap times on the default setups and all could be improved with testing.

I'd be keen for a heap of us to jump on one night either this week or next to try a few combos out.
Tues, Wednesday or Thursday suit people?
