Are you talking about Discord or chat apps like that? I find that I have no issues hearing people, but more often want to drop the volume of the chat when trying to put in some quick laps. Do your headphones not have the chat vs game volume function?

I think the 7.1 surround setting only works on PC too?
Do you find there are any issues being wired?

Astro A50 can turn chat up and down to the point of not hearing one or the other at all.
You can also plug your phone into the mix amp and run apps like crewchief and have it play the sound through your headset or even music playlists etc.

Thanks. Can you do it from the headset itself? I know a few others can do it but you need to use a control box which sits right near the console. This doesn't work when you sit a few metres away

Easily, you tap the top of the right ear up to turn up the voice chat and down to turn it down. There's a dial underneath that cup to turn up and down the game sounds.

Is it tight on your head. I know the A20s are from Spidey's comment and I've read a few things about the A50s might be a little firm for some.

I've got a head like a gas bottle, I think I'm a size 58 hat and they are not at all tight.

true 7.1 only works on pc.
only the turtle beach headset has chat vs game sound adjustments. I'm talking about just everybody in the one lobby while in gameplay

Nope, Astro A50 does as well. Both party and non party chat.

How do you find the battery and charge times? According to the splast cs it take near,y 6 hours to fully charge and then you have only around 13 hours game play.
I wish they weren’t as expensive!

how can a headset differentiate between the game sounds and the chat - all in the same room?
I thought it could only be adjusted if there is a separate chat room so both inputs can operate independately

I've no idea, I have never once have had it die on me or warn me it's low. I've had mine since early PCars 1 time.

HyperX cloud 2's. The wire doesn't bother me as I'm sitting at my PC desk and it has a clip so the cord doesn't interfere.

Astros 20's ( I hope they are already scratched off your list unless you won't them for a specific point).
    Cons:
Uncomfortable. Not from the clamping force. It's from the notch that's cut out in the very top hand band. Some di.k head at Astra thought that would be a good idea. It hurts the very top of my head.
Charge time is about 10 hours. not sure what run time is.
On pS4 you can't see how much battery is left. Mid race the headset might die.
It's not bluetooth wireless so you're not taking it on the go with you anywhere.

    Pros:
It works with the Elgato for streaming and recording. (you need the optical out to work with the software or you get no PS4 audio in the gameplay recordings)
Separate chat and game audio adjustment on the right ear can. If it's race time I just turn you lot down on the headset and I focus on race audio. (every headset I buy in future will need to have this feature)
Them being wireless. It's great not having a cord attached when you move about the room.
Good volume. It goes louder than my ears can handle.

It's in the PS4 audio settings also.
If your headset supports it, it just works.
Sorry Beaker, meant to tag @Woody 's post

Important thing @Woody is what PS4 do you have? a standard or a Pro?
I think only the Pro has the optical audio connection.

Good point but a HDMI audio extractor would fix that

A20s are definitely off the list @Spidey_11
Do you use the HyperX for racing in the seat at all?
I think being able to turn down the chat is an essential feature, having had it for the past 2 years I reckon I would miss it.

they come up great in reviews and they seem to be one of the best for comfort. Looking more into a couple of the models at the moment.
