Black Rock Cove Front 9
Hole 1: Par 4, 392m, HCP 16
The opening hole is a medium length Par 4 with multiple options for all types of players. Find the fairway and you’ll have an easy approach to a green that slopes severely from back to front, with a false slope to the right.
Hole 2: Par 5, 576m, HCP 12
This long Par 5 can be barely reached in 2 shots, but you’ll have to shape your tee shot around the fairway to have any chance. Keep your ball in the short stuff and avoid the trees and bunkers if you want a birdie. The green isn’t too difficult to putt on, so this is a great scoring hole.
Hole 3: Par 4, 414m, HCP 10
If you can clear the large fairway bunker that splits the two fairways on this Par 4, then the rest of the hole should be a breeze. If not, you’ll have a long second. Avoid the water and bunkers protecting the green otherwise a bogey is almost certain.
Hole 4: Par 4, 368m, HCP 14
This split fairway hole is another Par 4 that requires careful thought on the tee shot. Check the pin before you shoot, but generally the left fairway provides the best angle to the green, but is a riskier tee shot. 3 bunkers protect this green that slopes hard toward the sea.
Hole 5: Par 4, 453m, HCP 8
Hole 5 features another split fairway, but the left fairway is blind from the tee and requires a careful tee shot. Most players should opt for the right fairway, it’s easily accessible and you should easily carry the bunker protecting the green on the approach. Don’t go long here as you’ll end up in the steam bath behind the green. With 4 tiers on this green, birdies don’t come easy.
Hole 6: Par 3, 194m, HCP 2
The 6th hole could be the toughest Par 3 in the game. The green is a colossal 65 metres below the tees so club selection is everything. It’s better to be short here rather than long, but be careful of the large bunker. Putting is a real nightmare on this green with several large slopes and a small parch of infected grass at the back. This is a mean Par 3 where par is a good score.
Hole 7: Par 4, 403m, HCP 4
The 7th is a sharp dogleg left. Be patient on the tee shot, those who attempt to cut the corner by taking on the 7 shaped bunker wont like the result. Set yourself in position for your second shot and attack the pin with a short iron. Putting shouldn’t be a problem on this green but it’s still easy to miss if you’re not careful.
Hole 8: Par 4, 328m, HCP 18
Despite the giant bunker preventing players from hitting driver off the tee, this is an easy Par 4. A hidden fairway to the left will make rear pins easier to attack this narrow but well receptive green. Just avoid the bunkers and you’re home free.
Hole 9: Par 5, 576m, HCP 6
The 9th is a long 3 shot Par 5 that features 4 islands of fairway. The left side is easier, but water is more of a factor. The right side takes the water out of play, but there are EIGHTEEN fairway bunkers to deal with. Regardless, you should have a short iron into the green for your 3rd shot. The 2 tiered green is protected by more bunkers and slopes back toward the player.
