Ok guys.....we have about 2 weeks before we make a call on what the car will be for season 6. These are the cars i will be testing before coming up with a decision.....remember that the car will have to be suitable for all standards, wheel or controller, and suit different circuits....gearbox will be key !....will be online over the next few weeks a fair bit more so anyone keen to help test just let me know....

I have driven a few of the ones suggested, and all have their pros and cons....
    V8 Supercar.
Pros.....great sound, aussie content, pretty solid to drive, has lights so can do night race
cons.....gearing a little short, tough on cold tires, a little oversteery but could prob be tuned out with roll bars. Tough on controller ??

    NASCAR
pros....havent driven either enough to know how it might stack up
    cons.... ^^^^^^^
    [IMG]
    or
    [IMG]

    OPEN WHEELERS
pros....heaps of grip, give some great racing.
    cons....cant run night races
    FORMULA C
    [IMG]
    Formula Gulf
    [IMG]

LMP Marak or Orica LMP 2
pros...heaps of grip, never run before, easy on tires
cons....felt a little too easy to drive, short gearbox, felt lifeless
    [IMG]

    Mustang GT4
Pros....was fun to drive, lots of oversteer !! sounded good, lots of liveries from memory
cons....(from memory) no brakes, not a heap of grip...

    Ginetta G40 Junior
pros....is supposed to be a great little race car (havent driven really)
    cons....slow !

    Ford escort
    Pros....something completely different
    cons.... not sure !

    My thoughts:

Escort and G40 Junior are waaaay too slow

The Mustang GT4 handles and brakes like a boat

If it was an LMP it'd have to be an LMP1 as the LMP2's are a bit lackluster. LMP1 is also very stable and easy to handle.

Formula C or Formula Gulf could be really fun. I'd definitely give away a night race to drive one of those for a season.

V8 Supercar is OK, not very easy to handle though, especially for those on controller.

NASCAR is boring and runs out of legs pretty quickly.

So my votes would go to the Formulas or LMP1, followed by the V8 Supercar.

Some good choices there, I still stand by using a V8 Supercar for this season

If we used a Formula car it would have to be at most formula B as I think formula A is extremely difficult on controller.

Mustang GT4, G40 and Escort I agree with @dj2ca, maybe the ford Trans-am car??

I think the LMP1 is almost overly grippy, it seems very easy to control on the wheel and gets boring

The V8 requires a degree of skill and car control to hustle it around the circuit which is also fun, don't know how it handles on controller.

Modern NASCAR requires DLC but I THINK that doesn't matter if the host owns DLC and NASCAR is the only car able to be driven in the lobby.

Old NASCAR........haven't driven them much but maybe low top speed? I dunno

I'd say V8, NASCAR (Ford Fusion) and Formula C/B

Lmp is only easy to drive because you havent pushed it. Push some tenths out of your best lap times and see how hard it gets when on the limit

Well that's kinda assuming isn't it Zachary ;), to be fair haven't ever driven the LMP1 online and so yeah I probably haven't pushed it all the way but oh well, we'll see what is chosen and whether I have need to squeeze some more time outta the LMP1.

We definitely can't use DLC cars. Even though technically it should work we've had major issues trying to use them in V8's random race series (race won't start, cars stuck in the paddock, race not even loading). Otherwise my vote would go to the Renault RS.0.1, now that's a quick car that begs your full attention.

He is right though. Even though the LMP1 is pretty stable it can still bite back in a big way.

Nah dont mean it like that. Push the boundaries of it and theres a fine line of getting it on the limit or putting it in the wall. Remember that because it relies on downforce so much, when it kicks, it kicks hard....

    • The V8 Supercar and Nascar to me are uninteresting cars to drive. I personally like cars that are simple and will handle the same way you expect them to handle the entire race, rather than being a car you have to wrestle for 2 hours to get any good pace out of it. The nascar and V8 as already mentioned have quite short gearboxes on them stock which is a big con. Modern NASCAR i can confirm is a DLC car (not a free car), so we'd have to use the older NASCAR which has no brakes whatsoever
    • Personally i prefer the Formula Gulf over the Formula C. The Gulf reminds me a lot of the Formula 1000 cars i do a bit of work on (see rooz avatar), and driving them is really good fun. Simple to drive, easy to get used to, great handling car and should provide some great racing. The biggest con is its lack of power, but I don't see that as much of an issue at all because i think the great racing will compensate for any lack of speed. The cars would both be suited to more technical tracks with good spots to over take, rather than long sweeping tracks.
    • In terms of LMP cars I'd prefer the LMP1 Marek over the LMP2. I Found the LMP2 in Jono's SOO series hard to drive with my driving style, and made me really have to go back to basics. Cost me a lot of time, and I therefore found the car un-enjoyable. Having said that though, I'm all for giving it another go in a div with people whos time will be closer to mine.
    • Mustang GT4 by all reports is a handful to drive and has very little in the way of brakes. It might look good, and sound good, but to me i'd rather a car i can jump in with little to no practice and be right on the pace. I also get the feeling a car like this could lead to many failed overtaking attempts and unnecessary amounts of protests. The other thing about this car is we had a GT car last season, don't really feel like another GT car.
    • Ginetta Jnr I absolutely love. Its a slow car no doubt, but its simple and easy to drive, and most importantly to me, easy to jump in and be right on the pace. I think this car could be an excellent car to drive, should produce lots of great racing, just need to make sure we pick tracks which suit its strengths, e.g technical tracks, rather than tracks with long straights.
    • Escort i haven't driven yet, but once again from all reports it seems to be car that doesnt turn all that well, and has poor brakes, which are 2 big turn off for me. I feel like cars like that are a good challenge to drive by yourself, but they dont produce good racing, and could cause many unnecessary protests.

Something I've mentioned many times before, and will continue to mention is that I think that cars that are slower are better to driver, and produce better racing. The cars that are easy to jump into and be right on the pace are the cars we should be looking at driving, instead of what sounds fancy or challenging because it might not produce good racing, and may in fact be a cause of many protests. My #1 car for next season is the Formula Gulf, followed by the Ginetta Jnr

I think my first choice would be the v8 but that's probably because I live diriving it so much :D
My second choice would be the formula C as I think it's a little more fun to drive than the gulf.
All the cars that struggle with braking are probably the least appealing to me as I would think the lack of brakes would make close racing a problem

If the V8SC wins then i'm certainly out. Such an awkward feeling car!
The Mustang is just another GT4 like the Ginetta; already been done so i would very much expect a Season 4 Repeat with just three times as many Crowd Fatalities, because Mustang.
LMPs are hit and miss. Great to drive but the dirty air effect and general high speed makes me question the Racing it would produce....
    My Answer: Ginetta G40 Junior.
This has the hallmarks to replicate GT6 Season III. Close slipstream dogfights all race long. Easy enough through the corners where Controller Guys will be fine, but sensitive enough to let you know when you're asking too much of the cars mechanical grip. Slow? Yes. Fun to Race? Guarenteed.

I don't understand what is so bad about the V8, it requires the driver to actually manage the throttle and put some effort into the driving and not just go full throttle out of the turns as we probably would in some other cars...
Definitely now leaning towards that or a G40, from what i've seen it does provide nice close racing and a heap of fun

Good pace last night @RHINO11. Have to get that mic sorted so you can hear the dulcet tones of some of the lads ! Based on last night will def be div 1, hope we were clean enough for you !

The V8 is a mixed bag for me, i think i would need to do a million hours in it to find any pace, and while i dont want to speak for anyone, i think this could be a turnoff for a lot of drivers. That said, it was widely agreed that last seasons car was a ripper and we still lost a lot of drivers :confused::whistling:, so we cant win sometimes.

from the few hours we did last night i loved the G40, and both the open wheelers were really good too, i think they would also give some great racing...we tried the formula b and also the gulf (was good even though my wheel was having a moment) and both felt quite racy.....

We tried the LMP 1 and 2, and they both felt really dull to drive. the R18 was solid, and the marek took an eternity to come onto boost ! Were both ok, but i think that we would have a lot of drivers bored with it after 3 or 4 rounds

So, my top 3 at the moment are the open wheelers (gulf and FC) and the G40. I think with a full grid any three of those would provide some great racing. (the thing i liked with the G40 was that there were NO adjustments, the bars and bias are all static, so its the car and driver..... ) gear box was pretty good, had a little lift off oversteer, but was really good once i started to get used to it, will get easier as well as the fuel comes off......

Will be on again tonight and over the next few night for some more testing / short races for anyone wanting to join....

If the formula gulf is chosen I might be inclined to turn away, don't know whether it was my driving style or maybe cold tyre glitch(??) but the fact I was last by a mile and retired after 1 lap means I'm not a huge fan of the car, quite the contrast to what transpired at Mount Panorma next race...;) other than that I'm pumped for round 1

Last night was fun! Definitely won't be driving if it's the V8 Supercar, the understeer is ridiculous and then when it finally turns in it just wants to spin around on me. Way too much to handle. I really like the LMP cars and really enjoyed both of the open-wheelers too.

took me a little while to get used to the Gulf, found it had snap oversteer on some corners, but after a few laps i managed to get my head around it.....i think too that as the fuel comes off it would get easier to control....am really keen for a few more races in the G40.....is slow, but in a pack could really keep you in your toes.
Did you get in early enough for the G40 ??

Depending on how long you guys are on i'll try and make my way online. Got to deal with 53 Laps of Monza first, but if i have time i'd love to throw some cars around. If we drive the V8SC though i'll throw my Wheel out the window instead
