Season 3 Division 1 highlights by KoAStR

Hey guys. Once again I'll post up pictorial highlights from Div 1 Season 3.

I'll try and limit pictures to about half a dozen per race this Season. Quality over quantity, and to limit time spent on it!
So, apologies in advance if I don't capture some events you were looking for...
Hit me up with any special requests in the Div1 ranking chat after the race and I'll look out for those moments in the replay.

Grand Valley Speedway 13 laps kicks off the new technicolour Season!
Use the results image (bottom) as your driver colour reference.

Lap 1 after turn 1 - Beau retains pole, Paulie drops from 2nd to 4th after a poor start, as does Outta from 4th to 11th.
Nasanu in 2nd, Koastr 3rd.


Lap 1 final turns - Floodsim, natmanscoop and Bensu compete for 5th with Outta and NeverEnough in toe.
Koastr 3rd, and Paulie 4th can be seen just ahead.


Lap 2 turn 1 - Disaster for Koastr, braking too late and locking up after slip-streaming Nasanu. Finds himself in the sand and drops back to 6th.


Lap 3 hairpin - Door to door, Floodsim 4th, natmanscoop, Koastr, Bensun and Outta competing for position.

FloodSim puts in some great horn work across the bridge between the tunnels. (not shown)

Lap 4 hairpin exit - After natman gets squirly on the exit there is contact with Floodsim as he contests 6th. Flood spins and drops back to 9th. Outta and Koastr just ahead.


Lap 9 through the 1st sector sweepers - it's door to door as Outta and Koastr compete lap after lap for 4th.


Lap 13 before the tunnel - Beau and Paulie go door to door after being nose to tail all the way.


Lap 13 into the tunnel - Beau and Paulie rubbing panels as they joust for 1st in the closing minutes. Beau will go on to win by just 0.6s.


Photo finish! - A better exit speed out of the final corner and some slip stream assistance is not quite enough for Koastr. 4th place is agonizingly close but goes to Outta.

Eiger Norwand (Short). 2 x 12lap sprints with reverse grid for race 2.

Race 1
Lap 1 Turn 1 - It's a KoAStR sandwich. NeverEnough will find a way through around T2 to move into 3rd.


Lap 2 Turn 1 - OuttaAngst gets way out of shape as he and KoAStR light up the rear's after some contact. KoAStR moves into 2nd position.


Lap 7 Straight - Natmascoop gets crossed up mid-air over the crest. Floodsim gets tapped and slides into pit lane as Natman fails to regain control. Sidfire unaware of the carnage brakes hard for T1 in 7th position.

Lap 12 Southern loop - Chasing KoAStR for 1st, Paulie gets caught out under brakes. Spectators throw up their guard as he puts it in the sand. OuttaAngst is not close enough to take advantage and Paulie will maintain 2nd position.


Results Race 1


Race 2 (reverse grid)
Lap 2 Turn 3 - Sidfire spins as AussieInfidel pushes passed into 5th. GTP_Paulie is already up into 4th after starting 8th on the (reverse) grid.



Lap 5 Tunnel Exit - GTP_Paulie and AussieInfidel get a bit out of shape after contact as Aussie contests for 3rd. KoAStR is in hot pursuit from 5th position.


Lap 7 Out of the Esses - Outta kicks up some grass as he chases the pack leaders. GTP_Paulie begins closing in on the race leader Lost-on-drugs.


Lap 8 Turn 1 - Controlled burn. KoAStR lights up a rear wheel contesting AussieInfidel for 4th. GTP_Paulie makes his move for 1st position.


Lap 12 Southern Loop Exit - Lost-on-drugs nearly looses the back end which lets Outta pass into 3rd.


Results Race 2

Thanks m8. Yea.. I think it's not so much that the inside wheel isn't spinning, just that only the wheel under load (outside when you have a half decent LSD) actually gets hot and smokes up. In this case, where the corner is cambered, it could also be that the inside wheel is just off the ground.

Not that this GT5 tyre model is 100% accurate either, but perhaps not as ludicrous as it first appears.
Certainly in the cars with open diffs it's the inside wheel that spins and smokes.

Autumn Ring 20 laps. Eagerly anticipated first race back after the prolonged PSN outage.
Most of the action and the race outcome was pretty much sorted out in the first 5 laps, then it was just a case of grinding out the remaining 15 laps for most....

Off the start Turn 1 - Outta bogs down and looses his podium position off the grid. KoAStR and natmanscoop slip through into 3rd and 4th.


Lap 1 onto the back straight - Beau gets lost in his own dust cloud as he runs wide out of the RH sweeper. KoAStR capitialises on the opportunity to slip into 2nd, but not without a bump from Beau battling to regain composure as he gets back on track and off the grass.


Lap 2 out of the loop - Natmanscoop powers on a little early and gets way out of shape. OuttaAngst is within striking distance and retakes 4th position, just holding natman back through the next few corners. xNever_Enoughx and Floodsim are close behind in 6th and 7th.


Lap 3 sweeper - Floodsim gets a wheel on the grass and puts his TVR nose into the wall just in sight of the bridge. Natmanscoop gets some breathing room for a while.... Later Natman and Flood will pit for tyres and tussel for 6th (not shown).


Lap 5 into the hairpin - Paulie's exit from the sweeper see's him loose pace down the back straight, letting KoAStR clinche 1st with some careful late braking.

Lap 5 final corners - KoAStR's lead is short lived. After running wide on the previous corner his dirty tyres see him run wide again. With the home straight in sight this is a costly mistake and will see KoAStR out of the running for the top two spots.


Results - After his early mistake Beau does well to reel Paulie without blowing out his tyres. They go head to head for the next 15 laps but Beau does not find his way passed. The rest of the field spreads and pretty much just settles in to grind out the rest of the race.

Tsukuba - Enduro round (54 laps).

Lap 1 through the esses - natman hugs onto the leaders after a last minute suprise podium qualifier. Background; KoAStR pulls up along side Floodsim eager to move up from 6th off the grid.


Lap 2 hair pin exit to back straight - natman tries a tight exit line to get a jump on Beau for 2nd, but will be out dragged down the back straight. Background; KoAStR has slipped passed Floosim and is setting sights on Outta for 4th.


Lap 3 sweeper - distaster for natman as he runs wide onto the grass, letting Outta slip through into 3rd. Unable to control the slide, natman finds himself facing the wrong way before crawling back on track in last position. Background; Paulie and Beau in the top two positions begin to break away from the rest of the field.


Lap 7 mid field hairpin - Outta takes a defensive line as KoAStR begins his challenge for 3rd. It will take the next 5 laps for KoAStR to seize position.


Lap 13 mid field hairpin exit - Classic Beau and Paulie, just inches apart competing for the top spots. Unfortunately, due to mechanical (TV) issues, Paulie will drop out from the battle for 1st position later this lap.


Lap 14 mid field - KoAStR, struggling to gain some breathing room from Outta, relishes the opportunity to challenge Paulie for 2nd. For a few laps it's a 3 way tussle.


Lap 20 mid field sweeper - Grass flies as Paulies rear view is consumed by KoAStR in hot pursuit and they break away from Outta. Better tyre management will see Paulie begin to pull a few seconds advantage to secure 2nd position before both drivers pitt lap 27.


Lap 23 mid field sweeper - Criss Cross. Natman drops a wheel on the outside grass verge which sends him into a violent spin. When the smoke clears he finds that his jeans are now spun on backwards and his helmet is in an inordinate orientation - straight up gangsta.


Lap 51 final sweeper - Outta struggles to maintain front grip as his 2nd set of tyres degrade and runs wide, a critical error that will see him relinquish 4th place to Floodsim who has been focusing hard to be in a position to capitilise on such an opportunity.


Lap 54 final sweeper - Super Drift Finish! KoAStR has a bit of fun on the final bend, rounding out the podium with fresh air in front and behind.


Results - a pity natman couldn't turn his quali and fastest lap standings into race finishing positions!

Laguna Seca - 18 laps

It was a warm sunny day in the American desert that contributed to a few hot heads during the race!

Lap 3 final turn - Having already lost 3rd position to OuttaAngst and a shot at 2nd by running off into the litter turn 1 of this lap, KoAStR lets loose a barrage of expletives regarding this dubious marshall decision on a short cut penalty which will see him drop another position behind Floodsim (not shown).


Lap 5 corkscrew exit - Syncronized drifting as natman feels the heat from Never_Enough contesting for 6th.


Lap 11 turn 5 approach - KoAStR returns to challenge 3rd. After several side-by-side challenges and position changes, KoAStR makes a brave move up the inside of OuttaAngst to secure the position as they approach the final brake marking before turning up the hill.


Lap 12 turn 4 exit - KoAStR, with Outta still hot on his heels, fish tails as he recovers from dropping a wheel off the outside of the tarmac, but manages to keep the power down enough to maintain 3rd position.


Lap 15 turn 4 exit - A summary of Paulie's race view: Beau ahead and just out of attacking range, but still close enough for Beau to feel the heat, well, warmth at least.

An unforced error by Paulie at this same spot next lap will give Beau time to cool off before bringing home the gold. With no pressure coming from behind, Paulie will do the same as he comfortabley drives home second place.

Results:

Rome Sprint round. 2 x 11lap intense races between high speed gladiators around the colosseam.
Becoming of the notoriously tight fenced street venue, many vehicles finished the day exhibiting battle damage....

Race 1
Lap 1 T1 - The high speed gladiators are off to an exciting start. Beau battles to maintain pole position with Paulie and KoAStR threatening up the inside.


Lap 5 T4 - KoAStR pulls a tidy 'out and under' on Paulie to move into 2nd.


Lap 5 T4 - Natman currently in 4th, will yield position to Never_Enough and OuttaAngst in the next few bends. Floodsim lurks in the background.


Lap 6 T5 - Paulie deals KoAStR and accidental blow under brakes which see KoAStR into the wall and Paulie scrape passed. But KoAStR will reclaim 2nd position before exiting the final turn onto the home straight this lap.


Lap 8 back straight - Outta slips into 4th, passing Never_Enough just before the braking zone into the dog leg, just as Natmanscoop comes into view over the crest.


Lap 10 T1 - Steely determination. Paulie, showing the grazes from unforced outside wall contact in pursuit, battles with KoAStR for the 2nd spot. Ultimately KoAStR secures the position.

Race 2 - Reverse Grid
Off the grid - In awe of the mighty colosseam, Beau forgets launch protocol and gets left behind with a false start penalty.

Lap 1 T5 - Natman in 1st gets a little overeagre judging his brake zone and clashes with Paulie....

Lap 1 T5 - ... through the dog leg, with no where to go but into walls, the repocussions for natman and Paulie are severe. Paulie now in peels himself off the outside wall in last place while Natman bounces on, still desperately out of control. Outta and KoAStR narrowly escape collision, Floodsim sees minor contact but all three will scrape through ahead of Natman. Beau rounds the dogleg and the incident provides him an opportunity to recover ground after his poor start.



Lap 7 T3 - Beau and KoAStR engaged in a raging battle for top spot. This is but one of many side-by-side moments through the bends. Beau will take 1st position into T4.


Lap 10 T5 - After an earlier incident with Beau requiring redress KoAStR has dropped back. Paulie is now just inches away from KoAStR as he jumps at another opportunity to challenge for 2nd. Paulie sports battle damage from his earlier incident.


Lap 11 54 - Never_Enough challenges Floodsim for 4th, although the position is not secured in this manouvre, Never_Enough will finish in 4th. Both vehicles are showing a few scars from Rome's notoriously tight fenced circuit.


Race 2 Reverse Grid Results

The Grand Finale! 7 laps of the epic Nurburgring 24hr circuit.

At the Grid - Beau in his usual Pole position outside the Start Tower as light rain falls.


Lap 1 Turn 1 - KoAStR sneaks up the inside of Beau from 2nd on the grid. Paulie goes wide and has the advantage into T2 to take the lead.


Lap 1 Carousel - Beau sneaks inside Paulie as he runs high.


Lap 1 2 corners before the home straight - Paulie spins. Beau can be seen dropping down the crest in pursuit of KoAStR.


Lap 1 home straight - Beau and KoAStR side by side with the rest of the field in the background nestled amongst 'green hell'.


Lap 2 out of Kesselchen - KoAStR slips passed Beau


Lap 3 begins - Darkness fall on Floodsim in 4th, with NeverEnough close behind.


Lap 3 just before little Carousel. Beau runs wide on a high speed bend and KoAStR capitilizes.


Lap 3 ends - Beau & KoAStR part ways for the rest of the race as Beau ducks into the pits early while KoAStR goes round for another lap.
