I am organising both the regular sunday league, and this new format test if that helps. You should give it a go turbo... it's only 3 rounds and doesn't conflict with a pcars season
Now that the current season has ended, could you use the data to model you new format to how it might pan out?
Use the entrants and their results from each week to model your new format. Start with the Divs as they are/were, then use each weeks quali times to determine what the relative weekly room make up would be. Use race result times to rank each room then see how the points would have worked out. It some holes in sure, but may be a good indication if the format is doable.
I could share the sheet I've built over the last 5 seasons to provide a number compared to the fastest on that track. Both FL and RT are used to create the number. This is then averaged over the season, then each season avg is then avg'ed together to provide a number that would indicate overall pace. Then this is filtered / reorganized to sort racers by speed in certain cars (some are fast in fast cars, some are fast in slower cars). Then the divs are posted and test runs MnG for instance are undertaken to ensure accurate results.
One thing I don't like about this system is say a guy in Div 2/3/4 qualify's in room 1 or even 2 for a lot of the races in the season, he will get more points then the other guys in his division which he might not even race against all season and win the championship because of the way the points system works, he might finish down the back of the room and might never actually WIN a race which I have found not much fun in the last season...
How I see it happening is that the term 'division' will disappear and you will just race against others of similar pace. However with only 1 championship up for grabs, it is likely that only the pointy end of D1 will be in the running for it, so yeeaaahhh. Happy to be proven wrong if this isn't the case. Take the last race for S5, Nemo and Josh were racing mid / high D1 pace, well beyond their division (3)
There will be an overall AND separate divisions (bar div 1 since that will be the overall) As for @Ozglenn 's point, if a driver in div 3 can consistently qualify divisions higher, I think they deserve the extra points
Have officials been approached for this yet? Wouldn't mind setting some laps to give some sort of gauge for us to aim towards.
out of those signed up thus far, I would have the following list of roozers who could submit official qualifying times for members: @Hatfield @emmo46 @Viperzed @CAB77 @Matthyus @Bryan_F @incey @KeedenMcdonald @holdenman05
it's not mandatory, basically just saying you are trusted to run an official qualifying room that drivers can submit times in
