I eventually got the hang of discord but it took a while. I like forums and I still think some functions are useful here (such as long-form communication and data/stats storage) and it should be kept alive... but in my opinion there are a few issues:
1. Apart from this GT Sunday League sub-forum, most sections of this website have been inactive for months if not years, and even before then a lot of posts were infrequent. The ACC league organisers moved away from this forum as their main hub several years ago.
2. For the GT League to survive, we need to be proactively attracting more competitors which takes time and effort from the organisers... and most gamers with online presence have been moving away from internet forums and towards Discord for a few years now. So, we really need to be where the potential player base is.
3. This forum software is very dated and needs upgrades, particularly so that it has properly responsive behaviour/design on mobile devices. Compare the display and functionality of this forum on your mobile to
GTPlanet which is running much newer forum software, it's a huge different in user experience.
My understanding is that these upgrades are expensive to do, and the question would then be, who foots the bill? Any decision would need to be weighed against the number of people who actively use this forum. In comparison, Discord is free, has a lot more active users, and a lot more inbuilt functionality.
4. There are administrators here, but the RaceOnOz site owner has not logged in for over 3.5 years and has not posted for 9 years... which complicates any decision that needs to be made around the forum and funding of any upgrades.
