Guys a few short vids of me at Phillip Island and the skid pan in Shepparton. Not particularly interesting but I thought I'd just throw them on here. Forgive my wife's inability to take video, and the picture quality - the footage was taken on my 2001 vintage digital camera. I have also done a track day at Winton, but no videos from that. Hey you from Shepp? The misses don't trust your driving she wasn't game to stand to close to the fence.
Nah from Melbourne, just went up for the day. Need to do it again, its been a few years. But I'm not sure I trust the car for another full day of flogging, it's getting a bit long in the tooth.
It sounded good on the skid pan, a work college said he probably heard you; he lives a couple kms away and hears the guys racing there.
Sweet I'll have a look at these when I get home. I went down the Perth RAC centre and drove 5 hot laps in the V8 race car just before Xmas. Not nearly enough! There was a WRX club doing a cone course TT on the adjacent skid pan that was good to watch. Made me want to get a hot car (the GQ Patrol isn't really suited to track, even with extractors and a hi-flow exhaust!)
I quite often have the 'Work to Home Grand Prix' which is always fun...especially later at night... I live near the Swan Valley and the back roads are verrrry quiet...pity a WRX is maxed out so early
Here a couple of short vids of me practicing at the Kart track today. The videos don't do it much justice though.
Cool as. Hoping to give these a go with a group of mates for my upcoming 30th. A mate has a GoPro cam that I'm sure he'll bring out. http://www.ultrafastkarts.com.au/barbagallo-circuit.html
Nice laps Beau, looked very smooth and quite often that is fast in karts. Agreed with you mate, the outside footage doesn't do it justice at all. To some extent either does onboard though.... For me in the Cobra onboard looks like you're driving like a complete girl everywhere (look down at the speedo however and it's over 100km/h). A few laps of me at our local circuit Would love to get a helmet mount for our GoPro as others have mentioned, not sure on how to though?
yeah, you have to be smooth in a J. If you slide them around you just bog. A new 125 is coming soon for me. Not a rotax though, probably a leopard
I imagine it will feel like a superkart going from a J to a Leopard. My J has only 11 Hp where the Leopard has 25+ Hp. Did you have an electric starter on your kart or a friend who was crew. My reason for not going more regularly is not wanting to waste a friends time with them having to watch all day and only be needed for starting. I used to do the lift and dump thing, but the old back didn't like it.
I start myself MIKI, my back is only 25 so still works fine. yeah the 125's are a load faster, and stickier tyres too. even a clubman is a load faster than my J. My j can rev to 11000rpm, where as a clubman will do 18000.
I want a Kart. Seriously thinking about joining a club.... something I've always wanted to do and it obviously helps sim racing skills too! The crux is, I have no where to store one, and barely any room for a trailer either.... something to think about, maybe next year though.
Yeah I have the same storage problems. At the moment my kart is kept in my dads depo. It is a good sport though dave. You'd be good at it too. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be, find out what category is the most popular at the club you plan to join. then buy a kart to race that category. that's partly why I race the J. that and because it's always the best kart to learn in. pays off down the track when you jump in a faster kart.
I did that Kart event yesterday at Barbagallo raceway. It was full wet conditions and freaking awesome fun. Karts were squirming all over the place and quite a few guys had spins. There was another group with ours, about 30 or more Karts on the track all together.. Race 1 they start #1 kart front. I was #6. Easy win. Race 2 is reverse grid by numbers, so I started near the back away round the corner (not even on the straightaway). Got Passed everybody and even lapped a few! In my group had fastest lap by 3s - 1:27.4xx Got a trophy for the win an all! And the best part, bet my old man whose a bit of a driver from years gone by. Especially fun in race 2 to beat him since he was car #22 so started close to the front. Hehe It also got dark during the second race and the track lighting came on. Was very cool. Even a couple of flashes of lighting. I think it was more fun in the wet that it would have been in the dry.
