So I've been stuck using a 32 inch LCD for this comp so far after my 58 inch tele crapped out, been struggling to get sub 6:30, got my Panasonic back thursday, set it up thursday night, hit GT5 for about 10 minutes and bagged me a 6:28, it honestly felt like I was driving no different to how I was on the smaller tele, strange, before I was thinking a 6:28 would be max for me, now I'm thinkin 6:26, the bigger screen makes GT5 seem slower making it much easier to hit ideal lines and stuff, so happy to have my baby back :D

    How's everyone this Sunday morning?

I would like to put my hand up to watch the final top 10 race from in the lounge if that's fine with the drivers?
I'm looking forward to this race, either watching or racing!

You don't really want to know, haha!

It's a shame you can't procure a wheel from someone just for this comp, you'd make top 10 for sure mate, I know I'd lend you my DFGT but I need to set it back up as I can't use my new GT2 wheel due to a faulty brake pedal on the clubsports, frustrating, not to mention I'm in Broken Hill

So you had a good night last night then haha.

It's a shame I can't procure a wheel from someone for good! lol na just kidding. I had a wheel for my PS1 and my PS2 and I will be getting one for the PS3 sometime soon.
Nice you got a GT2 wheel, bummer it's busted.

I went and put some Aero on my 458 today (got frustrated trying to keep the MaClaren on the track at Trial Mountian...lol), definitely makes a difference.

I'll post through my new lap time later... Managed a 6:37.089... Still nowhere near the top guys, but gets me away from 10th on the ladder (for now...lol)

I worked out what the major differences with controller vs wheel last night. I figured it out when driving in real life yesterday. It's corner exit speed and technique. With a wheel you can mediate you acceleration AND the rate in which you straighten the wheels. With a controller it's very hard to slowly turn the wheels back to straight when exiting a corner. They pretty much have to flick back to straight when you're finished turning, where as a wheel you slowly turn back to straight, just like in real life (well we let the wheel slide in our hands). Same with accel. With a wheel you can slowly turn back and gradually accelerate out of corners at the same time, creating a perfect exit. Also corrections with a wheel are much smaller as opposed to a controller which you are basically turning the wheel full lock back and forth, therefore going into a spin. Maybe this is obvious, but I only noticed it in the car. Yes i know

    ....cool story bro.

That being said, damn jezza get a wheel and you will be a machine.

Had a crack with Small_Fyz's suspension tune yesterday. Makes a huge difference. New time submitted. :D
I know I could take seconds of this time again as I'm still not pushing the limit of the new tune everywhere, but just haven't been able to string it together. Even in just the first sector I can make up 0.25 - 0.5s sometimes.

Full credit to you guys on the top spots who have strung it together and some! Even with the tune, they're still cracker laps ;)

yea it is difficult to straighten up smoothly with a controller, especially on Eiger. Have you tried adjusting the controller sensitivity?

    Hey guys,

Ive been watching this comp over the last week or so, sounds like it's going to very tight at the top. I've just submitted a time of my own a 6'27.458 I maybe able to go a little faster, but I feel I'm not gunna have anymore days to have a crack at it lol anyhow I used to race in a comp on another site with Jezza and Fryz and I can tell you guys that they are both very fast and very helpfull guys... why they aren't both racing V8 Supercars IRL I don't know, but I'm sure they would give the current real life drivers a run for their money lol

Anyway good luck everyone with the final resaults :)

    PSN: StoneGossard

Edit: you guys have no idea how hard it was to stop the clock on my lap so that it finished with .458 at the end to match the car's name.... lol /jokes :)

Can I just say as an observation, 4 out of the top 5 in this competition now after all times are updated, are people who don't even race in our league, but have signed up to the forum to enter. I don't think this is fair on the people that have been racing here for past seasons have been essentially shunted by new players coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden because there is a prize. I thought this was something for gtozleague, not anybody who decides to swoop in for a prize.

    My 2c.

All is fair in love and war. My take on it is that the comp was designed to get some more people to the forum, with the hope that some will stick around and join in the next season of the league (which will conveniently start up just after the comp ends).

For what it is worth on laptimes, i managed a 6'39.537 last night, which was going to be my final effort, til I looked at how close the leaderboard is in the high 6'30's. Will have another crack tonight to gain a couple of seconds. Still probably wont be good enough for top 10, but I can only hope.
The "real triggers" I have been using on my DS3 also broke while we were on the grid on Sunday night, so I am back to stock L2/R2 buttons as well.

True, I think it's a great idea to get more members, but you can see what I'm saying. Might leave a bit of a sour taste in the mouth of some long time gtloz racers thats all.

That's a really good time Barra, I haven't really given it a good crack, but yeh i'd say as long as you make it into the top 10 you have a chance I think, the Nordschleife isn't really a good gauge of short track race conditions, so I would rate anyone a chance who makes it :) Wonder if Beau will jump into this, would be very keen to see what kind of time he could produce...

Thanks for the kind words, but I think there would have to be some kind of carnage in the race (which I still have to make - as far as I can tell, Im out of the top 10 at the moment) for me to have a shot against the guys running low 6'20s

Sorry if I'm stepping on any toes, but I heard about this comp on another site because you guys are promoting it as a comp open to anyone who joins the forums (like a member drive promo) I'd be very interested in joining any leagues that you guys are running as if you look at the internet there really isn't many other places that run successful comp's atm.
I don't consider myself to be a fast driver, all I do is stuff around with my settings until the car feels balanced, and then I try and take some good race lines. But I was thinking that my '27 wouldn't have been enough to stay in the top 10 as I'm sure there is at least 10 ppl on this site that could produce a time equal or better to my '27..... TBH I thought all you ppl were holding off posting your quick times till the 30th-31st, and that when you guys did I'd be knocked out.

The setups that Frys and Jezza posted are both capable of getting a good time, I'd say Jezza's would be best for a person that's not "the fastest" as it's spring rate enables the car to stay flatter on the road at high speeds.

    Good luck guys :)

Trustfire, I can certainly see where your coming from mate, I have to mention though, if the whirlpool forums didn't get blocked at work back when this was all starting out I would have been racing from the get go, I actually still have a replay of the lap I did around Suzuka for the qualifier, back when the first season was about to get underway, the only reason I didn't end up taking part was because it was just too hard to follow wihout being able to get on whirlpool, now you guys have a dedicated site, which I just stumbled upon recently (at work, haha!) I will tell you I have every intention of participating in the next season, or atleast attempting to qualify for div 1 or 2, oh and I'll be getting into whatever you guys get happening for Forza 4 also, can't wait for that!

On topic tho, just sent in a 6:26.437, came close to running off on a couple corners but felt like it cost me time if anything, there were a few really ragged corners in the second half of the lap too, should've been a 6:24 but I felt the pressure a bit :/

I can agree with trusty's point but at the same time the more active members the better!
Let's fill up the grid in the main season, the 501-Make Series and Enduro Series!

Also, like I posted up before, I've got my hand up to watch the race from the lounge (with a beer)... as I'm pretty sure I won't be in the top 10 haha
    Looking forward to the race.

Glad to see you here mate! and solid time too.
Looking like a strong field lining up!! should be a great race!. I've been a little slack and havnt run again since my initial run. Been busy with life and the spare time I've had has been put into the league or GTA IV haha. Well done to Jezza for your seriously quick time mate.
