Can be done, The stripes on the MX5 vary depending which colour you choose, some reds give a white stripe and other give a black, It depends whether you want white stripe/black wheels or black stripe/white wheels. I would prefer red/ white stripe, black wheels.

I am happy with what emmo has proposed, as I am red already, but I preferred the black stripe variant whit white rims, just to be a pain

I can do black/white stripe/red wheels too. If it changes, how can you decide between white or black stripe when you paint red? Edit never mind we'll work it out lol
White Rims all the way for me, I don't think we all have to be identical, as long as we're running a general theme, eh?
I'd prefer if we were identical, but if we do run team livery (and it sure looks like it) I'm going to put in your suggestion and a couple of mine. Some of which are an iconic livery, e.g the CHARGE livery from the 787B and RX8 Concept Race Car.
Even if it has white stripes now, they will still change to black depending which new colour you paint the car. you have to cycle through the colours looking at the preview to see which stripes get matched to each colour
