ROOZ NEWS 1st Edition - S12 R2 - Aug 24th to 31st

In this first edition of what we hope to be a regular feature with a round up of the weeks events, welcome and we hope you find the reports entertaining and informative. The reports are a collaborative effort between several of us ROOZ members with a representative from each division, and we hope to recruit an iRacer rep shortly. We hope to have ROOZ NEWS released weekly on a regular day yet to be confirmed, so please bear with us as we work out the kinks.

So we will kick off with N64's round up of all the action in Div 1:
Mustafur scored a fortunate victory in Race 2 at Monaco with N64TheStig007 scoring a shock 2nd place and X4rotorsplorxX rounding out the podium. The race began with Mustafur (matte black) getting the jump on warrior2167 (white with green wheels) and N64TheStig007 (Gold) moving ahead of X4rotorsplorxX (white). Zampli (orange) was the big lap one loser, dropping to last after being squeezed out at Massenet.

Mustafur and warrior were in a league of their own and increased their gap over N64TheStig007, who had left rotor and Anon666 (purple chrome) behind. Zampli was charging through the field, moving up to 7th by the pit stop phase. TTR_Joe90 (dark green) struggled, unfortunately well off the front running pace. Rotor was the first to gamble with the pit lane, stopping on lap 11 to undercut Anon. The field reacted, with the majority of the field following suit. Anon, N64 and Cyber_STIG_77 (dark blue) lost out in the congested pit lane, Anon dropping well behind rotor who was now right on the back if N64! Cyber had also fallen behind Zampli, who was driving a great recovery race. Natmanscoop (dark blue) attempted a no stop, ran as high as third giving N64 and rotor a hard time in the process, but fell to last due to his dire pace on destroyed tyres.

N64 and rotor were having a lovely battle, with N64 finally succumbing to the pressure on lap 18 when rotor brilliantly darted up the inside of the Casino Square.

Warrior's decision to stay out was a gamble, but his pit stop a lap after Mustafur was inspired. After pulling a 3 second gap, he sadly disconnected from the lobby.

On fresher tyres, natman was on a charge, dispatching of Joe and garyw61 (red) with just 2 laps to go. But Gary never gave up.

On lap 22, rotor seemed to have 2nd sewn up, but he dropped it out of the Nouvelle Chicane and gifted 2nd to a bewildered N64.

A charging Zampli placed the pressure on Anon, who slid at the Casino Square, handing Zampli a magnificent 4th place.

So, a dominant victory for Mustafur who now leads the drivers standings convincingly. N64 punched well above his weight to take an emphatic 2nd, with a charging rotor close behind in 3rd. A fighting Zampli took 4th ahead of a frustrated Anon. Cyber was a lonely 6th after an eventful race, finishing well ahead of natman. Joe might have caught gary for 8th with 2 more laps, but had to be contempt with 9th and last.

Now we move onto Div 2 and Ad2mny has submitted the following report:
Had done a little practice at this track before I went away (awesome time in QLD, beautiful weather, friendly parking inspectors, lots of half naked women ) but I came home on the Friday, got 2 more quick practice sessions in and arrived just in time on Sunday night to put down 1 lap to qualify and still only managed last so I realised I was in trouble from the get go.

GRID: S_CLOSE, VENDALISM, NUGGET-22, Dbn26, Dougz32, Stumbles01, disturboed, emmo46, X-3vi1m00n, OverDrivve, me​

Ran side by side with OverDrivve through Sainte Devote and up through Beau Rivage but was past by Massenet. I had closed right up on X-3vi1m00n at Mirabeau and tried an inside move at the Hairpin but could not put the power down without running wide so he got the better run around the outside.

As I entered Portier, the 4 cars in front of me had bunched right up. It was a brawling pack entering the tunnel including (F-R) disturboed, Stumbles01, emmo46, and X-3vi1m00n. As we started the turn, emmo46, on a wider line, tapped his brakes to turn in on a tighter line, and as I was trying my hardest to stay with the pack, I was starting to understeer towards the outside and I tapped his right rear sending him into a fishtail and then spin. I slowed immediately and OverDrivve ghosted through me after collecting a sideways emmo46. I watched in dismay as the pack pulled away while I took my penalty and also felt bad for taking out emmo46 and OverDrivve. So for the next few laps I was just chasing emmo46 but not really making any ground. By lap 5 I was starting to close on him while we both started closing on Stumbles01. Lap 8 Stumbles01 and OverDrivve had an incident at Tabac and emmo46 and I got past. I was all over emmo46 on lap 9 and was looking for a slipstream pass but he was braking like a legend and I just could not find a way past. Coming into the Chicane he clipped the inside left wall entering and me, OverDrivve and Stumbles01 all piled up behind him, with me spinning out. I was able to quickly right myself with a reverse flick and OverDrivve was waiting for me to recover which let Stumbles01 get between him and me. OverDrivve dropped back over the next few laps and on lap 11 emmo46 pitted. Stumbles01 was really pushing me hard for the next 2 laps and stayed out when I pitted on lap 13.


X-3vi1m00n and disturboed battled most of the race

I repassed Stumbles01 as he pitted lap 14 and he was all over me again. It was a great struggle to try keep him at bay, but on lap 17, I had a bad entry into the Chicane and cut it pretty badly. I slowed just enough for him to slide past on the exit and he slowly pulled away. disturboed made a mistake lap 23 entering the main straight which allowed me to catch and pass him, and that was how we stayed to the end finishing in 9th.

Well done to S_CLOSE on his victory, and VENDALISM and NUGGET-22 on the podiums.

Thanks for the report Ad2mny, and now to round up the Drift Dawgs in Div 3 from hsv_butters perspective:

I qualified towards the rear of the midfield (around 6th, can't be sure). Everyone got a good start off the line, great reactions from everyone. The field went two wide into the first corner, I was on the inside line and was squeezed into the wall.

I spent the first few laps trying to hold position, and ended up yielding to HazeOne, he was laying down more consistent laps and I wasn't comfortable pushing the tires that hard.

From laps 3 until 16 I kept a low profile laying down the 1:48's and the occasional 1:47 ticking off the competition as they turned their cars around on the fast corners. Lap 9 showed enough tire wear to make using the PS3 controller a pain; it was at this point traction was something I needed a treasure map to find. Somewhere around lap 9-12 Dan and BJH both pitted putting me 4th. Lap 16 I had to pit, the car was getting way too tailly, this is a race, not gymkhana.

With fresh tires I was back to 7th. I think BJH pitted for a 2nd time close to the 20lap mark putting me 6th.

Dan was running tires with an extra 5 or so laps on them, so I started pushing hard to catch him.

On lap 23(ish) I had caught up enough to put the pressure on him, however I had pushed my car so hard that I can only assume our tires where in the same state. We spent the next 3 laps synchronised drifting, trading paint and positions. On the final lap I had taken 5th from Dan in the high speed chicanes, however on the final corner on the front straight I tried to lay down early power and ended up turning the tires. Dan got a better exit and overtook me on the front straight.

The podium was 1st T.B. Williams, 2nd for Darko, and 3rd for sparklehead followed by Hazeone, Dan, hsv_butters, Darkace, bjh, and Rumbleshorts.
