I think he meant relative to the competition, which I think everyone would be in the Cuppa. There is no doubt that racing would be closer in the Cuppa. The way I see it is: In the 908, a small mistake could cost you 1-2 seconds at least. 5-10 seconds if you ended up with a wheel on the grass. In the Cuppa, a small mistake might cost you a car length at most you really have stuff up pretty badly to lose more than a second or so. Plus, with the closer racing, more battles, gives someone who drops back a bit some clean laps to catch back up to the pack. The SLS will be in between, but much closer to the 908, faster drivers will probably find at least half a second a lap on the back markers and mistakes more costly. So the fields will be spread out.
I can't agree on that Benny, in the MX5 season (very similar to the Cuppa,) the field was spread out considerably and the non aliens never got a look in. At least in the 908 there were a few surprise results.
I'm thinking about doing some wet weather testing between F1 FP3 and qualy tomorrow (3-5PM AEST)... for the SLS
