Ah the beloved Mountain and starting on SM …. Lap 1 over Skyline into The Esses lost the back end and for those who remember the old “Skull” beer ads, exited sharp right into the wall (without the beer) and quickly watched the rest of the field go merrily on by….ah BLX!
Quickly peeled myself out from under the front bumper applied copious amounts of bog and gaffer tape, tightened up the straps and got going. Still focusing on the one stop strategy had some interesting position changes and battles up to lap 18 and up to position 8 entering the pits. Changed to SS and refueled, however burnt too much fuel trying to keep pace as the field went on by during the pit stop and ended up pitting again for a splash and dash a little later on. Exited the pits ending up line astern with
@Beats143 and
@Blunty075 was further ahead up mountain straight.
@Blunty075 was defending however hit the wall enabling
@Beats143 and myself to get passed. Efforts to keep close to
@Beats143 proved pointless as he had the better tyres and swiftly moved on. Anyway, managed to maintain position with a well worn front right and finish 11.
In hindsight which as always is absolutely fantastic post event, thinking I should have kept to the original strategy of qualifying and starting on SS, better still not hit the wall at skyline on Lap 1 and maybe think about adding some consistency into my racing. Anyway, the race was done and post-race discussions with me ole mate Carlton Draught swiftly took over ..
Well done and congrats again to the podium, cheers.
