+1, i agree it's sad to see people leave rooz, but only when it's on their own terms. Seeing someone get banned for continually abhorrent behaviour isn't one of those cases, and I firmly believe rooz is a much more friendly and welcoming space now that MetalGear is gone. Onwards and upwards from here.
I agree with the outcome, I just wish he had seen the light. I see his shocking behaviour as self destructive above all else which is clear by the outcome. Sad situation to me, just can't be happy about him gone but it is more than obvious it was the only option.
Me when I saw this thread today: Sounds like some horrible shenanigans went down. I didn't expect MetalGear's win to be stripped in such spectacular fashion.
I agree with Apex more than I care to admit. MetalGear's been coming and going from division 1 for almost a decade (or longer? My knowledge doesn't go beyond 2013) and there's a melancholy to the history that was made today. He's hurt himself most however because there will be future seasons where he'll wish he is able to compete against Australia's best drivers just to get that extra practice. Currently he doesn't see much worth in ROOZ but that will inevitably change in the future so be aware that the ban is hurting him a lot. Correct me if I'm wrong but he's not gonna race in any other local Aussie league because of lackluster competition for him and he's not welcome on GTP, so he's stuck. He might even ask to come back, but that's speculation. There's also the aspect that MetalGear was tolerated by ROOZ for a long time in order to bolster the profile of the league. I know that's a claim that would want to be verified and factchecked and I don't want to go into a discussion on that but everyone can give whatever commentary or defence they deem necessary to protect egos that need to be protected, but it doesn't change anything either way after this outcome so let me be crystal clear that I'm not accusing the mods of acting improperly and think it was in the interests and health of the league that a driver of his talent and commitment to Gran Turismo be given acceptable opportunities to race. However it's readily apparent that anyone who has previous infringements like him, I am confident, would have been banned years ago, and Viperzed alluded to his rapsheet and most veterans know the extent of the rapsheet. Newcomers are invited to PM Viperzed for a rundown which would be enjoyable for both parties, lol. Not wanting to pour fuel on any fire. I just wanted to speak at the funeral because I'll miss him as a talent more than anything else. An unfortunate outcome occurred today but mods' hands were forced and many would say it should have happened sooner. This is my first and last post on this.
It'd be like if Michael Schumacher or Jamie Whincup decided to give their respective championship organisers some chin music after every race. Fantastic driver, just lacked the common decency to not be a tool when he was given clear instruction.
I have no doubt we are all flawed in some way, its just how we deal with the issues that pop up from time and how we react to them as individuals. There are drivers here, that have been themselves on thin ice in the not too distant past. As for MG, he does have a bit of a history going a long way back in our community, back at a time when ROOZ was nothing more than a group of guys competing for space in the growing sim racing world. There is no doubt that he was a world class driver, has speed that most of us are envious of, but the world has changed along with the expectation of the community, not just ours, but in general. At that time, some of his first indiscretions only had an effect on the 14 or 15 guys in his room, and as such, the response from us as mods was a little more reserved, apologies were forthcoming, and for the most part his his actions were in line with our community. Fast forward 10 or so years, and we all know how much things have changed, from the size of 'our' group, to sponsors, to online streaming and social media. The world we race in is much much bigger, and our actions have a much wider reach and effect as a result for ALL of us. Im not sure we need a running commentary on the decision the mod team has made, other than to say it was unanimous, and also one that the general ROOZ community agrees with. Lets hope we dont have to make the same call again to those who should know better.
Sorry if I missed it, but what is the points system for this season? Was thinking this morning that awarding points for Pole and Fastest Lap might be counterintuitive when there are mandatory tyres and we have to start on the tyre compound we qualify on
I am happy for a point for FL and pole to be available this season as if you start on softs you have a chance at the pole point, but if you end on them you have greater chance at the FL point
Round 2: Laguna Seca - 28 Laps - 14:30 Sunny - 14/2 WELCOME to Season 14!! As always please take 2 mins to read the following so you have an understanding of what is expected on race night. If you have any questions, or want clarification on any of the rules or regulations please ask! ROOM OPEN : Most room captains will 'try' to have rooms open by about 7:50 AEDT. Please be on time, or let the room captain or div thread if you may be late. If all agree, the room may wait for you, Within reason. Please remember we have drivers from NZ, and later starts mean a much later night for them. QUALIFYING : 8:20 AEDT for 10 mins. If a driver joins while qualifying mode is active, room captains will need to grab a quick photo of qualifying results, cancel the race and then set grid by host. In practice mode, once 10 mins has been reached, finish the lap you are on and park up off track. (Qualifying mode should be used so the room can be set to x0 tyre/fuel for qualifying) YOU MUST START ON YOUR QUALIFYING TYRE RACE START TIME : 8:30 AEDT (once qualifying has completed) LAG ISSUES / ROOM RESTARTS : This is up to the room host/captains. If there is a Disconnection (or cars stuck on grid) at race start, it is sporting to try to get them back in, which may mean a new room to be set up. I always look at 1 or 2 starts if required due to DSC, but as it gets later everyone needs to be aware of getting things going. Please be as reasonable as you can with this.... SIGHT ISSUES: Ensure that you can see everyone on track. Before qualifying, exit to lobby and spend 30 seconds in spectate mode, scroll through the list of drivers on track and make sure that you can see their car. If you can't see somebody (and they are confirmed as being on track), exit the lobby, re-join, and check again. FALSE START CHECK : Please note that the start type is Grid Start with False Start Check Please practice this so you know what to expect. Simply, you hold the brakes on until the lights go from all lit, to none lit TURN 1 LAP 1 : This has the potential to ruin someone's night if we don't use our heads! Should be everyone's goal to get through the first phase with ZERO contact. Give room and run in your 'lane' till you have space to run the normal race line. If your unassisted tap causes someone to spin, you need to redress. TRACK LIMITS : As we are running with 'track limit penalties" OFF, we will run with our usual Raceonoz track limit regulations. This means you MUST have at least 2 wheels on the ripple strip OR white line that defines the track limit. If you do make a mistake and have to run outside the limits, be aware that you are not allowed to gain any advantage. Be especially careful with, the inside lines at T1, cutting T6 and the corkscrew CONTACT : Is to be avoided at all times..... If you rear end someone and gain an advantage, YOU ARE EXPECTED to give the spot back. Side by side 'rubbing' is racing, within reason, but all drivers are expected to give racing room. If you bump someone and they end up off track or teleport back to the corner entry, you must wait for them to rejoin and get back up to speed. Show each other RESPECT! It is difficult enough to drive the car at the limit on your own, without someone squeezing you within a millimeter of the grass. So be patient and show respect to your fellow drivers. If you are redressing contact, please do so out of the way of other cars, off the racing line, or if there isn't much room, off track. Contact in the final corners could cause a reset which of course must be REDRESSED if you are at fault. TYRES : Sports Mediums (mandatory - unlimited sets) & Sports Softs (not mandatory - 1 set ONLY) PIT ENTRY : The Pit entry is to be followed at ALL TIMES. 4 wheels across the line that determines Pit Entry will be seen as a violation of track limits and you will be subject to a penalty depending on severity and quantity of cuts. PIT EXIT : You are required to use the pit exit lane, Penalties will be adjudicated in similar fashion to Pit Entry. You should be to the left of the White pit exit line. ENSURE YOU DO NOT CUT THE LINE. Please be aware of cars approaching out of the hairpin. NOTE: Pitting is NOT COMPULSORY BLUE FLAGS : Please observe blue flags, and move out of the way of faster cars if you are being lapped. Failure to observe blue flags WILL result in a penalty STEWARDS GROUP AND RACE PROTESTS : This season the steward will be @Hatfield. If you have reason to protest, please SAVE YOUR REPLAY, and then let him know via a PM. DO NOT BLOW UP IN THE FORUM OR IN THE ROOM CHAT. There have been multiple incidents where the replays from drivers have been different, so its true that sometimes things are not as black and white as they may seem. You have until MIDNIGHT, Monday night to register your protest via PM. Stewards will ask for video evidence from both drivers or room captain to make any decision. SAVE YOUR REPLAY : If the room host can ask all drivers to save their replay would be good before exiting the room.....once they exit out and the option goes, it cant be retrieved! PARKING UP : If you are unable to continue to race, please enter the pits and leave your game paused without selecting tyres (or no tyres) so that your car stays parked in the pits. Parking up off track activates yellow flags in the sector, and even though penalties are off, we have reports of penalties occurring for passes happening near the parked car. FINAL NOTE: Could all drivers please confirm their attendance for this Sunday by 'liking' this post in your division. If you are unable to attend, please post in reply as much in your division. This way we can figure out our reserves or if the room can start early in advance. (ALSO IF YOU KNOW YOU CANNOT ATTEND, PLEASE POST SAYING SO, SO THAT RESERVES CAN BE ORGANISED IN ADVANCE) If you do not post in your room thread or psn chat that you cannot attend, a spot may not be held for you for the following weeks race
Congrats Risky Gr8 win. Will make the podiums eventual victories more sweet. I overestimated myself and started on ss, knew I made wrong decision when I qually last of ss. Then have GT sail by in the second stint like I had more weight.
Pretty stoked with that one, starting to really like this car! Hopefully the rest of this season can continue to provide good results
@CaptainRisky21 congrats on the win mate, and well done to the rest of the podium. Really not enjoying this car after I thought I’d be competitive. I’ve got decent one lap pace but can’t hold it together over a race stint. Will still give it a crack though
That sucked lol. Bang average quali, Had my race pace worked out rather well and felt good to challenge for a top 5, Maybe top 4. Unfortunately my first stint was heavily compromised early in the race which led to mistakes on my last lap on the Softs, which then led to a pit entry cut lol whoops. Had more strong pace on the mediums, looking good to again challenge for P4 until more stupid car things happened and I plummeted through the field at an unbelievable rate of knots. To say I was pissed was an understatement. Had faith that this car would produce some good racing but for the most part other than the odd great scrap @Mike--ekiM offered me, It's been infuriating and full of people who either don't commit entirely to an overtake or ignore your existence. I've got no doubt that will continue but fingers crossed we see a lot less of it in Bathurst.
