In a first of many more to come we are now having regular news articles of user generated content, as well as sponsor related articles and reviews. I felt this to be a worthy first article as it will be of interest to many of you no doubt, Raceonoz member Quadstretch has been working on a little project with his boss, he has been keeping me in the loop as it progresses. And it has now reached a stage ready to report on and unveil to the Rooz community.
The concept is a coffee table that converts into a fully functional cockpit, with seat, pedal, and wheel adjustment. This is no backyard shed project, Stretch and his boss are using some of the latest materials, and fittings technology available to them in the joinery trade.
The unit was first modelled in Autocad to ensure that all components would fit once in the folded position, and to also create the cutting files for the CNC router that would cut all the carcass pieces from a single sheet of board with minimal waste. This process ensures that all components the best possible fit.
The wheel deck and pedal adjustment rails are CNC routered out of a product that is an acrylic stone bench top material. A lot of these parts were designed and machined to reduce the need for additional off the shelf components like hinges etc..
I have some prototype pictures, and some picture of where the current model is up to, the current model is now in the paintshop receiving it's two pack gloss paint job in "Metallic Kermit Green" while Stretch's boss is going with a "Bumblebee" inspired paint job.
Once these bad boys are complete and I can get to turn some laps in one I will follow up with a review, video, and some more detailed pictures, but in the meantime please enjoy these offerings.
