The templates for each car vary greatly in their complexity and ease to work with. Using GIMP, I did a Skippy skin for me and a few mates (you won't see it of course, unless you're using Trading Paints and have downloaded it). Adjacent panels in the Skippy .tga are all over the place, so my 'themed' skin was a lot of work (i.e. if you need to cut & align stuff across many panels it can be time-consuming). You can do complicated stuff, but remember, as a forum you are going to be using many different cars, and a detailed scheme for each one will be a massive undertaking! A quick and dirty solution might be to have a GTLOz logo, a GTLOz base colour scheme, and a list of driver 'flash' colours (mirrors, or wheel arches, or car nose) ... e.g. Outta = Lime green flashes; Koastr = Red flashes; etc. The logo could be placed on any individual panel on any .tga If you want a complicted scheme, and soon, I suggest you pay for them to be done (each car will cost you $10-$20 a pop). Then get Bonus to edit the files, adding the appropriate flash colours (and driver names, perhaps). @ Bonus ... if you are really keen, mate, pick a couple of cars to play with, but farm the rest out ... or you'll end up with no time to race Alternatively, if you don't come up with something, I can do it in the next Wk13 ... I've no time at the mo though, sorry
Thanks stonemonkey, i got no idea about how it works, sounds like a lot of work. When i finally get into Iracing i think my main objective is to spend my time on racing and learning the tracks etc. Happy to leave the skins to those in the know, might get into that stuff, as you so wisely suggested, a bit further down the track.
Ive had such a bad run on iracing, I think I need to revaluate my driving and not worry about racing just finishing clean.
Paul ... you're on to it. Also ... never quit-out ... you throw iRating away when you do, and that means you'll forever be dumped in splits with more than your fair share of newbs. Cherish your iRating. Once you top 1,700+ you will start to find more accomplished racers next to you, and it becomes much easier to build your SR. So you are right to work on being clean, BUT, you must also finish. Even if you stack, you have no idea how many other people will quit-out ... you can still get positive iR even if a lap or two down
That's spot on Stone. I blew an engine once and didn't quit. I was back to last place before repairs had even started, and probably 2 laps down by the time I got out of the pits. But, a few other people retired or whatever and I finished 5th. I just did my first Skip race last night. I had a few seconds lead and it was so tempting to try and put the hammer down. Instead I just focused on finishing, even if it meant almost coming to a halt when passing lapped traffic reentering the track after an off, just to make sure they have seen me coming through. Nothing worse than thinking "it's their job to look out for me, I'll keep going flat out" and then when they don't look, you're left without any evasive options. That's always been my motto "to finish first, first you have to finish", and probably I drive a little too cautiously some races, but this motto is always ringing in my ears, and often it rings true. I'm not really fussed about custom skins in iRacing. As Stone said, you have to download other people's skins to see them. So you really only put the effort in for yourself, because chances are most other people can't see it. That trading paints is a MASSIVE data base and I can't be f''d with it. The in-game paint options are cool enough for me. Maybe if I get involved in a team series in the future, I would get the skins for just for that.
Tidy margin of victory in the end, KoAStR On trading paints ... as I am only racing one car per season, I am downloading ONLY those cars' skins. Last season I could see all the cool SRF liveries, but once I started in the Skip, I deleted them all and got the Skip ones instead -- that way I don't have to worry about the size of the db.
By the end of the season, folks may be at radically different iR and licence levels, so we'll prolly need to go 'hosted' to get GTLOz hooked up.
Hosted sessions will be good though. Can have a crack with the legends '54 coupe on a road track. For you guys that don't know, these cars are very similar to the AussieRacers, but iRacing offical races are only on for the time being. Get Mad to post up some links of these bad boys on road circuits, looks like awesome fun. (Mad's got youtube links for just about anything at his fingertips :lol In fact I might do test session with such a format JFF....
Yeah, I'm willing to put up a hosted session for fun if you guys want with the Legend on a road course. Check this out (on Cue) Legend at Charlotte Road Course, probably some of the best fun i've had. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HfTT8J5MkJk Tuesday Night Lites (hosted league) using the Legend, MX5 and Skippy. Awesome fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NDQpe0knRM
Just out of curiosity, i decided to tally up all of my iRacing purchases. Got a bit of a shock. I've spent $364.47 on content, since 21/07/2011. Thats pretty much all the cars in the game, except for, 6 oval cars. And then there's the new g27, and the Clubsport pedals. I think I'd best be hiding this months banks statement from the missus.
Yeah, I didn't really want to look at how much i've spent but here it is. I'll copy paste my log so far..... A lot of hosted sessions purchased in all of that. 100% content too btw! 2011-08-17 2189461 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-08-03 2159525 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-08-03 2159523 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-08-02 2156686 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-08-02 2156064 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-07-20 2119442 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-07-13 2106565 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-06-28 2075785 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-06-25 2065927 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-06-14 2041948 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-05-25 2002763 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-05-18 1971404 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-05-08 1902945 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-04-30 1868021 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-04-29 1858960 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-04-20 1822569 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-03-03 1754681 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-03-03 1688162 fulfilled $21.84 Cart Order 2011-02-19 1731528 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-02-10 1687959 fulfilled $0.00 Hosted Session Order 2011-02-10 1662700 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2011-02-06 1477842 fulfilled $69.32 Cart Order 2010-12-17 1476883 fulfilled $5.24 Cart Order 2010-12-17 1391377 fulfilled $75.00 Cart Order 2010-10-28 1391351 fulfilled $1.95 Cart Order 2010-10-27 1278432 fulfilled $1.95 Cart Order 2010-10-20 1345852 fulfilled $99.00 Subscription 2010-10-06 1068654 fulfilled $43.04 Cart Order 2010-08-27 1035655 fulfilled $219.35 Cart Order 2010-08-21 1017353 fulfilled $0.00 Cart Order 2010-08-15 1013336 fulfilled $11.95 Cart Order 2010-08-03 884512 fulfilled $66.96 Cart Order 2010-08-01 878952 fulfilled $14.00 Subscription Total - $629.60 Plus a gaming PC and G25.... Far too much money spent on sim racing.... Better off not adding it all up actually, it's too depressing. At least I enjoy it.
A single real life track day will cost you a minimum of probably $400 (fuel, track fees, cams licence) not to mention other wear and tear on the car. Then add a helmet and other gear. Iracing looks pretty damn cheap when you look at it like that.
Haha nice one guys. I've only spent about $70 on iRacing so far, but I pretty much haven't used my new PC for anything else, so that's $1670 really! Having only done maybe 10 road races and 4 ovals, that's about $120 per race ATM! hehe need to do more racing! But like Outta said, it's much cheaper than the real experience, and probably the best alternative.
Similar expenditure to you Koast ... well ... that was until I popped for some CST F1s (oops!) ... but only the 2-peddle set, and re-conditioned, so only $850 inc delivery (so not like I went bonkers or anything :/ ). My GI Max Pro also arrived this weekend, but that was just pennies in the grand scheme of things. Expecting delivery of the CSTs Tue/Wed ... will post how I go with 'em ... they're supposed to be the dog's danglies
Hehe nice. I'm still pretty happy with the 'ol G25. Mines not even that old really, 2 years maybe. Didn't put that cost in since I've used it across GT prologue, GT5, rFactor, and now iRacing. Wow those CST pedal sets look hell bling.
