Very nice vid, how did he move the camera like that? I get a little frustrated with the fixed cameras in iRacing.
Ctrl + F12 to edit cameras. I quite often edit cameras cause the original ones give me the s a little bit as you Dustin.
Intel GT series hotlap at Spa. It's taken most of my time up this week but this has been the 2nd fastest lap so far of any region only behind Luke McLean by a few hundredths. Quite happy with it that's for sure!
Nice, Mad One of these days I'm going to have to try a car with downforce ... I appreciate that you are making it look easy, mate, but the Skippy bobs and dips like a tinny in a swell compared to that ride I don't own the HPD, but you make it look like a lot of fun
Yeah the biggest thing about the cars with low downforce (eg skippy, MX5, V8SC etc) is that they are progressive when they slide and quite often very easy to hold onto in the event of a slide. Where as in a high downforce car (Indycar, F1, LMP), if it cranks sideways they can be quite difficult to catch. At the limit they are require extreme concentration and reflexes, but just beneath the limit (driving at 95%) they are quite easy. You need to give it a go to understand stonemonkey. To be honest I prefer the low downforce stuff, i've always preferred touring cars for the racing quality you can have, but the high downforce cars can be a bit of fun too for a change.

My not so hot lap at Virginia, fun track.
Ah so this is where you've been, looks damn good. But where are the holdens? They've got the supercars licence but no holdens? What the...
They got the license to be the officially sanctioned online series for V8 Supercars. But for the cars they need the manufacturers license as well. Ford gave it to them but Holden wanted to much money so they just didn't worry about it. Here is a vid of one of my favorite corners in iRacing from VIR. Oh... fair enough. Looking good anyway tho, like others I'm getting a bit sick of gt5 physics, and I'm getting a new computer. So iracing could be on my calendar soon. There used to be a place here called raceway simulator, they had bout 10 simulators hooked up together using the program that the actual v8 supercars drivers used to practice apparently, had most of the Aussie tracks on there of course, I only used to drive Bathurst with the v8s. Does anybody know what I'm talking about and is this iracing?
That simulator would most likely be using rFactor. Many mod groups/teams make mods. There are 3 V8 Supercar mods out and many many aussie tracks. It is a great game, but i'd rate iRacing higher. More and more V8 Supercar drivers are moving to iRacing now. Shane Van Gisbergen, Scott McLaughlin, Nick Percat, Owen Kelly, Tony D'Alberto, Chaz Mostert (a lot of fujitsu series drivers I know).
So, when are one of those guys gonna give you a run in real life? If they can't, how about entering the celebrity challenge at Albert Park before the F1. Those "celebrities" are usually nobodies so it would be good to have a decent driver to support. I remember a certain Jamie Whincup entering a young guns challenge before the Champ Indy cars. So it'd be great exposure.
M1K1_D, I'm not sure how much "real life" experience you have had, but it requires a very different set of skills, or personal qualities perhaps. Just take a look at this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0p_sCrM1CcI . Its the great Greger Huttu, flopping! (IMO) a real life drive. Take note of things in particular...Spewing inside his helmet....blistered hands etc.
Haha Yeah. Driving in real life is a very different thing. I drive karts a little bit at practice days and I should be having a drive of my dad's Cobra at Wakefield Park mid January. So that'll be a learning experience that's for sure. Beau, Huttu actually did pretty well I reckon. Wasn't he only 3 seconds off the pace, yeah that's a lot but not considering how little driving experience he's had (not even a street car). You'd get used to the G-force side of things as well.
Yeah ... with Huttu ... if they had tested him in Finland (or where ever he's from) and the heat wasn't a factor, he'd have been a bit closer to the pace too ... his quickest run was early doors, and then the heat got to him, I think (it wasn't the G-forces ... I don't think they can be too horrific in a Skip Barber). But I guess that also ties into what Beau is saying ... top drivers need to be as fit as a butcher's dog to be able to work under the conditions in their "office". Get GH a gym membership, then let him have another crack
Yeah. I think people who are fast in iRacing definitely have the ability to be fast in real life. But as you say there are some other key factors. Money, fitness and practice. You do have to drive differently in real life yes, but a good driver can always adjust their driving style to suit the conditions. Plus there's the fact that we practice for hours and hours. Look at V8 Supercars in real life, they get 5 test days a year and they only get about 3 hours practice on friday. It's not long to set the car up and even get used to driving again. That's where the real talent is shown.
Spot on Mad, great race again last night, i watched a lot of the race from Mitch's car, you three were so close most of the race.
Huttu did very ordinary I would say. 3 seconds is huge. then he gets sic, and blisters his hands. I have no doubt, GH has the theoretical ability to race a real car, but as for the physical aspects, he needs to HTFU. Yourself Mad, IMO, would do allot better, simply because of your sporting upbringing. Karting, tennis, and whatever else. A good sim racer knows what it takes to get a car around a track as fast as possible, and most probably has excellent focus and pressure handling capability. Then there is fitness....easy fixed...get fit! Then there's the big one... courage!!! (AKA Balls!) You're born with this, you can't buy it, you can't develop it. And also, just because someone is a better "sim" racer than someone else, doesn't mean they would be a better "real life" racer than that someone. So much of "sim" racing success, is in the ability to sense what your car is doing, through audio and visual's only. Add the "seat of the pants" input that you get IRL, and you might have a whole different outcome.

No smoke this time Neishy and 2+ seconds faster.
