    Awesome skins!

OK lads, we need to get some type of naming convention going on... that download folder is such a mess!

keep something similar to each skin eg: rotor_KTM, rotor_458, rotor_lotus

I agree, I have been sort of going by the convention in the OP.

Except skin name has included KoAStR and then a description (flames or shark) and haven't bothered with version number e.g. KTM-XBow_KoAStR_Flames

I think car name first is best so you can easily group by name for a given car/week for batch download. Either that or we could make sub-folders for various cars? - then there's a handly "Download folder" button. Either way, it seems more likely you'll want to get all skins for a particular car than a particular skinner.

Perhaps more explicitly the convention needs to be make then model as shown in the AC folders so we don't get a mix of Ferrari_458_KoAStR_Shark, and just 458_KoAStR_Shark for instance - but again some sub-folders would overcome this issue.

    Good suggestions guys.
When I initially posted the naming convention suggestion (back in Sept 2014) there were only a few of us doing so and for casual races.
Now we have progressed to a full-on season and there are so many of us skinning our cars I agree with the better naming conventions.

As Koastr has suggested perhaps something like this will work best:
    [Make]_[Model]_[Drivername]

Do we specifically need the skin name in the file name do you think?
If so then I'd add _[Skinname] to the end - eg. [Make]_[Model]_[Drivername]_[Skinname]

    Thoughts guys????

What would be great is to be able to put ALL skins for a particular car into the one zip file for all to then download - but I'm just not sure the easiest/best way to achieve that....so downloading individually might be the best option....???

Yea I would say that looks good and a "skin name" could be optional.

Personally I will keep it as I may eventually do more than one skin theme for a particular car so this keeps my uploads consistent with my local file naming.

Yea I agree if one person did download all for a car/week and re-upload as a single zip that would be ideal but a bit of mucking around for whoever is responsible, especially if there's any late skin entries.

As an alternative @DoogleDave assuming you are the admin of that mediafire share point, can you make a single level of sub-folders for the various car models as we use them? - then there is a "download folder" button that would in effect do the same thing as having a single zip file uploaded.

Is it an issue if I can't add any skins for my cars, just don't have the time. Happy to get whatever or go with a plain car color.
Will catch up with this sometime in the not so near future.

    Serg,
Don't feel you need to create your own custom skins. It is perfectly fine to just use one of the base skins that come with the game.
I think it's just become popular because we have this available to us (especially coming from GT6 where you couldn't create your own livery for the cars).

It's just a way for us to personalise our cars (and I almost enjoy making my skins more than the driving).

    Whatever floats your boat!

If you do want a choice of skin but don't want to make your own, there's plenty of custom skins available from sites such as RaceDepartment and the Assetto Corsa forums. If you post the link to the skin here I'm sure it'll be added to the list of skins to be used for that race.

Talking about metallic paint textures the other night...
The ferrari 458 has a "metal details" file that has a specular pattern in it giving it that pearly look.
I just noticed the BMW GT2 has two skins with metallic looking wheels. Open the rim files for "BMW Motorsport" and "Endless" skins... if you really understood the contours of a car you might be able to replicate something like this to get a metallic looking paint finish, but it would be tricky. I can't remember who I was talking to about this, but these files show what I was talking about, in that you can't just apply a colour, you have to apply some texture mapping to get a metallic look. Food for thought.
