We will give him last, but as we had more than 10 finishers, he wont get a point. I don't know what his issue was, but I found everything to be very smooth, I think turning voice chat off really helped. (I also cleared the gt5 cache).

Beau it's a shame to hear you won't have time to race anymore. I have been spending less time on gt5 out of necessity too. But instead if doing 3-4 practice sessions, I now do 1-2. It obviously helps now that I know most of the tracks.

Hope you can still make some of the races.

Points will be aggregated over the two races and whomever ranks 1st gets 20 championship points etc for the other positions.

OK thanks. It won't be easy moving through the field from the back at Eiger Nordwand, I'm really not looking forward to that track.

Btw ny race was awesome, apart from the start where I forgot to release the brake for a full second, then panicked and put it into 2nd gear. I felt like mark webber tonight. Went from 5th to 11th. Caught up with the pack fighting for 5th as koastr joined us from the gravel trap. So now we were all fighting for 4th. After a 4-5 laps koastr and I had cleared the pack and playing for 4th and 5th.
I nudged him a few time and had to give let him regain his composure, but it was all very clean. I didn't feel like swerving all down the main straight to stay in your draft koastr :).

Pretty much every lap I was tentative into the big stop at turn 2, costing me a good half second or more. So concerned about running into the sand trap there.

I finally got past koastr after many laps of poking a prodding, I couldn't really make a gap on him, but when he got a little out of position on the final lap, I finally had a little gap (maybe a second), I just focused on hitting apexes and not letting him past, I was a little conservative coming onto the final straight and koastr wasn't, he was 8 km/h up on my exit speed. I freaked out a little, trying to block him, possibly it was a little dirty. In the end the gap was only 3 hundredths!!

Very exciting race I found, I hope others enjoyed it too.

Well what a double edged start to the season - dissappointing result, but I had great fun getting it.
The good: Great turnout and got my PB time (1.10.21x) to qualify in 4th.
The bad: Braked too late into turn 1 lap 2, (not used to the slipstream brake point). Copped a shortcut penalty and ended up in the sand to drop from 3rd to 6th. Was way off my quali pace after that and really dissappointed not to stick it out with the front runners.
The good: Had the best sustained door-to-door battle with Outta for 4th place, and the replay will be a real keeper with Beau and Paulie also having a great nose-to-tail all the way.
The bad: Sad to see you're leaving Beau, especially after another great performance. But totally understand your reasons. Same goes for Taken.

Well done all it was mostly pretty clean. I got a bit messy at times, might have to think about running ABS. Really enjoyed using the H-pattern shift for this car.

Good racing last night everyone. As I mentioned I had half a dozen beers under my belt and was taking a sip each time i got a spare second on the main straight, so my result wasn't too unexpected. It probably wouldn't have been any worse if i was sober, but it was a whole lot more fun.
Thankfully there won't be too many more instances of F1 being on before our race.

    Anyway, here's my race review..
The pace at the front was amazing, I was just bleeding time to you guys, at least a second per sector yet I have no idea where I could be any faster. So I qualified 9th, got a really good start and was lucky to avoid running straight into the back of Outta, thought you must have false started. Coming out of the first turn I was up to 4th or 5th. The guys behind were jostling for position while I just concentrated on my lines not worrying too much about what was happening behind.

Lap 2 or 3 and Koastr was in the sand at turn 1 so I got him there. From then on I knew it would be difficult to hold the position as I had everyone biting at my heels so I was just trying to defend defend defend.. Which was working for a couple laps, I was holding up a whole bunch of guys haha. But then Koastr got a better run out of the final corner and with the slipstream got passed pretty easily. I backed off a bit coming into the first corner, not wanting to take him out as I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up with him, but in doing that I let Outta and Natman squeeze through far too easily.

A lap or 2 later and Natman was having a moment coming out of turn 4. I had nowhere to go but straight into him which put me on the grass and into a spin which let a few others through. This left me with a bit of a gap on Never_enough which I knew he was capable of closing. Slowly but surely over 3 or 4 laps he was closing but still not close enough to get a slipstream.
It was lap 10 that I got a bit wide coming out of the final corner which put me massively sideways/backwardds. I thought I was going to end up in pit lane which I had done once or twice in practice, but instead I slammed into the barrier right where it says 'PIT >>'. Would have been an awesome sight for never_enough and should look good on the replay LOL

I walked away from that with big damage not able to drive in a straight line, and with Sidfire not too far behind. I thought he might have gotten to me given we had a few laps left and I was starting to struggle with tires, but was able to hold my position and score a couple of points.

All in all, great fun as usual. One suggestion for next season, a Drunk round, could be interesting. I'd also like to see more use of the horn, just for fun. Not sure if the rest of you can hear it, but I was giving a toot as I passed/got passed.

Do you guys have a practice night? I'm hoping to be able to join in some practice this season and maybe improve my speed a bit.

Yea I became too tentative after my early off also.
We had a great couple of position changes sweeping and swooping there.

My missus has got impecible timing....She came in the front door (which is right next to the tele) after some wines with friends just as we entered the final lap, then messed around playing with the cat just within my peripheral vision. Wow that was hard to keep focus, hence getting 'a little out of position'!

Yea it's a blistering pace that's for sure.

Beau and Paulie were glued together most of the race so there was a small slip stream in this lap I'll wager. But Paulie and Beau had both already done mid to low 2.09's in practice.
I notice in the replay that Paulie left foot brakes and applies more throttle than most while he's still on the brake.
This will help him steady the car as he's coming out of heavy braking zones and gets the torque up early to accelerate through the corner. I can't do this as I have to right foot brake with my setup, and am limited to just a bit of heel-toe on shifts.

Haha yea I heard ya especially in the replay, mention that in the pictorial highlights, fine use of the horn indeed. Gave me a good chuckle watching the replay as you tooted your way across the bridge between the tunnels!

I got on the horn a couple of times, not sure if any one noticed. :D

Great write up Flood. Sorry I missed your big pit wall crash in the highlights. It was hard enough to keep track of the action between Beau and Paulie without missing something from me and Outta.

You use the clutch KoAStR? Left foot braking the go, i had to change my cluthch to the brake as my brakes stuffed up.

@ Bonus. With or without clutch my chair/wheel-setup has a post in the centre that makes getting my left foot over to the brake quite difficult. And to be honest I prefer to keep it authentic, so cars with a traditional manual layout I like to drive right foot brake and H-pattern shift.

Sometimes with F1/X2010 or other cars with paddle shift (mainly rally) I'll left foot brake, but it's pretty uncomfortable to do for sustained periods.

I'd love to see a series like this go into a random format. Guys spend vast amounts of time perfecting lines, if you have a life outside GT5 you can not maintain that kind of pace. And now because of this people drop out. Personally for this race I spent about 4hrs in practice over 3 sessions. Clearly was not enough since I noticed the two at the front taking totally different lines in some sections, given more time I might have found those lines too.

If a track and car were announced 1 hour earlier to race start the playing field would be much more even and the NEED to spent 20+ hours a week on GT5 would be totally eliminated. The usual argument against this is that in real racing this never happens. But in the real world we would all be paid to race full time and thus would all be getting the same amount of track time anyway. Each driver getting the same track time = more realistic, not less.

I'd really love to see this idea go to a vote for season 4, this and the banning of CPU assisted driving in Div 1.

    ---------------

As for race1?... I am happy with my effort in relation to practice put in, but I am not happy generally with the way I drove. I didn't get close to my average pace in practice. And I really should have stuck to the back of paulie but I got distracted by heat and started to learn over to turn on my fan. That lost me the slip and I fell further and further back. Most of the race was a boring chore counting down the laps.

Nassanu, TCS is the only assist allowed, and this is for the controller users. It is a disadvantage to use TCS anyway.

I'm sure if I didn't get the worst start in history and if Koastr didn't throw it in the kitty litter, then you wouldn't have had such a boring race.

Regarding the Car/Track announcement 1 hour before race time, whilst it sounds good in theory, it's not. Because some people have done 100's of laps of a certain track and others have never seen it before. It would take me an hour just to learn the track layout properly, so it still comes down to how much time you have spent learning the tracks. It's easier to adjust to the car if you know the track well.

You are assuming that people can get to the track an hour before race time. If they can't, they will have to guess braking and turn-in points, and be just as 'behind the 8-ball' as you feel you were this week!

You might not feel that you had the time to dial-in every corner, but at least you had some experience with the car/track combo. Late arrivals for a random format wouldn't have this experience, and there would be the potential for them to make a great many mistakes and compromise EVERYBODY's race.

Someone will always have more track time ... I might have been cruising GVS all week, only to find it gets announced as the designated track an hour before the gig ... what then? Are you going to bemoan my superior lines then? (EDIT: I see Outta has covered this point too while I was typing)

I totally 100% take your point that there is pressure to get track time if you want to be at the pointy end, but if people put in the time, they deserve to reap the reward, imho.

Looking forward to reverse grid next week. Have been running casual online lounges with this setting and it's definitely very fun. Gives the fast guys a challenge, and others a chance to enjoy contesting at the pointy end of the field.

Just remember. Defensive driving is a legitamite tactic, so be patient in the reverse grid. The purpose is defeated if there's just a ram raid to get to the front. This will be especially tricky at Eiger, so drive it like you own it and have to pay to fix it! Winning isn't just about coming in 1st. ;)
