I remember when I first signed up for ADSL2+ (Bigpond), for some strange reason my connection would revert from 992.5 Annex A to 992.1 (is that right Stumbles??), aka, ADSL1, I'd ring Telstra and they'd tell me I was connected at ADSL2 speeds then I'd run speedtest and get 1.5 down, bloody useless! Now it's all sorted my router (Thomson) tells me I'm running over 19000 down and 900-1000 up, I usually pull in about 1.7-1.8 meg a second on something like Steam for example, I live less than 1km from the local exchange so pretty lucky tbh.
@ Snake thanks M8 very handy info indeed.... sound like whats going on here. have to ring some ers (iinet) up and tell them its Clubbering Time!!!!
Yeeee Haaaaaaa ADSL 2+ has arrived and the results are GOOD. the speed test results return at PING 113ms (was at 63 the other night) does ping change at all and can you get a better ping??? DOWNLOAD 12 mbps UPLOAD 0.85 this result from the computer at the PS3 i'm getting DOWNLOAD 8.1 mbps UPLOAD about 900 kbps
Yeah that's sounding a lot better man, the ping is a bit high (I usually get 63-64ms on BF3 when playing on a dedicated server located in Sydney, usually around 40 on servers in Adelaide) but that's probably the server you tested from on speedtest, for some reason the PS3 always returns lower numbers, not sure what the go is there.
pretty good speeds aussie im 4mbs slower then you but hey i live 6x the distance away from the exchange so yer but it does the job
yeah that was the ping rate from Telstra in Adelaide... (113ms) and the ping rate from Internode Adelaide was 83ms... the Handbrake said it has been as low as 63ms when she pinged Internode..
Ping is just a measurement of speed from point A to point B... The higher the ping, the longer it takes a "packet" of data to get from one to the other. The lower - the better. When testing connection speed from a computer, always select a reputable Internet providers server from your local town/city. I'm with TPG but always do my speed tests to internode in adelaide, best results for me. Tpg's servers are in Sydney I think. Anyway, much better numbers there Aussie, must be a happy sledgehammer now
i just did a speedtest atspeedtest.net hereare my results... TPG Internet pty ltd. Internode Sydney Ping - 36ms Download - 4.93mbs Upload - 0.85mbs but i do live quite a distance from the exchange - 7kms
 Hell Yeah IT'S CLOBBERING TIME!!!! thanks for the info m8.. I will open my room and see how many boys i can get to gate crash my connection..
Grats on sorting it out Aussie, and finally getting internet like the average 1st world person  I'm glad I have cable, no major dramas for me 24 down, 1.2 up 25ms ping to Bris, Same down/up with 150ms to Perth Same down/up with 75ms to Melb Same down/up with 80ms to Adel Same pings to all cities with 'node but slightly faster DL/Up speeds but still within 5%
just did the test at speedtest.net and got some interesting results, sydney server aprox 500km away ping - 30 download - 9.86 upload - .78 canberra server aprox 220 km away ping - 42 download - 9.87 upload - .78 so even though canberra is closer i still get a faster ping out of sydney, i am about 1.5 km from the exchange.
I just tested mine on speedtest...... It must be said that i have no idea what it all means.......... Ping 18 ms download 9.70 mbps upload .69 mbps Good bad or just plain ugly ?????
That's pretty good stu, especially the ping. Any download over 8mbps and upload over .5 is pretty good in OZ.
just did mine Sydney server (remember I am in Tassie!) Ping: 86ms D/Load: 7.82mbps U/Load: 0.84mbps Don't know if this is good enough for hosting, with some help I could be back up room in Div 3 if needed
I did mine a few months ago and got 4.4Mb/s down, 0.67 up and a ping of 36. Thats to a Sydney server I wish I could connect to GT5 from work though - 450MB up/45MB down and a ping of 3
