    Hey guys how"s it going?
My PS3 kicked the yellow bucket. The Gamesmen can fix it for $180. Anyone know any better?

    Cheers

    Welcome back :).

Did you salvage your data? If not, apparently there are ways on youtube to get it going again briefly. You can just about buy a brand new one for $180 cant you?

Fair enough Seido, I have no further input then, I'm still on my first PS3, so have never had to look into the best/most efficient fixes.

Col - which screen are you talking about? I cant picture the screensaver in my head. When mine boots up it goes to the user select screen, then the XMB, where you have all the options etc. Is yours not getting that far?

i moved on..but damn it was fun!
My original "Fatty" did the same a few years back - it's to do withthe graphics chips getting too hot and the fact sony aren't allowed to use lead in their solder so it has no flexibility, so it breaks.

    Two ways to fix it.
    a) Pull it completely apart down to just the PCB and then heat up the chips with a heatgun to reflow the solder.
(there is alot of utube stuff out there to show you the process)

    b) Don't pull it apart and just direct the heatgun back thru the exit port of the hotair vent of the PS3.
(i don't really supports this concept - just sounds nasty - but have heard of it working)

A few simple things I can think of...
    - check the HDMI hasnt come loose
    - try a different HDMI port in the TV
    - try a different cable (hopefully you can borrow one)
    - try an old school component cable (testing PS3 HDMI port)
    - ummm.... ask someone smarter than me.

Hook up using your component cable that came in the box with the PS3, then select component on the inpiut of the television.

My PS3 had a hissy fit a couple of years back and somehow turned off HDMI out. Had to go into settings and change something can't remember what exactly :/

I think you need to select "Multi-AV out" or something like that, turn off, connect HDMI, start back up, and then it should pick up PS3, and guide you through HDMI setup.

    Something along those lines anyway.
