If you were in a holden ute you would have still been pinned to the seat at 240 watching the falcon disappear in the rear view mirror :p

Nah. In four years time, I won't be at my current state. I won't be playing Gran Turismo anymore. I'd have one year of university to go, and I'd have moved on and be a different person. Why the hell is it even a requirement? Who gives a :):):):) about it being provisional? I got my licence you dumb (profanities). I'm just done. Four years is so far away. It will never be a reality... I'll be doing so much other stuff.

EDIT: Glad I didn't put any practice in yet, or made the effort to go to any Live Events because then I'd feel even more :):):):). I only put thoughts and visions in my head, which might actually be why it stings so bad...

EDIT2: Girlfriend's coming over so hopefully I can get a pep-me-up if you know what I mean. =) When the time comes, I'll be at Willowbank to give those organisers a piece of my mind though. Goddamnit I'll get escorted away by security if I have too. I'll sit there and prove that I can do a fast lap. #shattereddreams

What state are you from and what provisional licence do you have crunch?. I too don't understand why you must have a full licence especially when you have a scenario where a couple years ago cameron waters at 17 was able to race in the bathurst 1000 doing 300 and had a provisional licence for the road.

Queensland. And through no fault of my own, I only got my provisional in January of this year (19 months later than when I was eligible). No fault of my own, because the test was damn easy and I'm a good, safe driver. It was my father's fault for not letting me drive his car, so 100 hours took far too long. God, this stings... but have to get over it.

Yeah I was flying around at E/Creek on my P's :D
Club motorsport isn't far out of reach. I bought an MX5 and am looking forward to getting involved in some club level racing after my wedding later this year. Plus I'll be doing the National and State Motorkhana's this year. Was going to come up to Warick to run at Morgan park over easter with a street motorkhana in Warwick the following day but stupid wedding interferes lol.
If door to door is a bit pricey maybe look at having a go at a motorkhana or supersprint. Events where you can take your road car and vent your frustrations without spending heaps of money.
Im organising a motorkhana with the MX5 club of NSW for next weekend at the moment, and its being run as a come and try/training day. All you need to have a go is say $100 worth of licences and club memberships, and about 50 bucks per event. Holden Sporting Car Club run a bunch of them at Willowbank. Give the little stuff a crack and then when you do qualify for Academy next time round, dong the real thing will be easier for you than someone whose whole experience stems from GT ;)

No GT Academy at the Top Gear Festival, but seriously, come down and see the MP4-4, it's very eerie.

I'd say the reason you need a full license is for legal indemnity. If for example, you had a provisional license and crashed during the real life training and were killed or injured, they'd be seen as irresponsible for letting a provisionally licensed driver in a race car.
The bloke who drove at Bathurst at 17 had a CAMS license, even if he only had a provisional road license.

It's all about red tape unfortunately, but I see the reasoning.
Like Mustafur said, if you want it bad enough, there is always a way.
Not having a go at you or anything Crunch, but throwing your toys out of the pram and saying the dream is over makes me think you wouldn't make it in motorsport anyway. I'd expect you to say something more along the lines of 'this won't hold me back, I'm going to do whatever the #$%^ it takes to get into a racing car!'.

If you really want it, it isn't going to be handed to you on a silver platter...go out there and get it! :)

Don't feel too bad crunch, although this may sound pessimistic (or realistic? ) what are the chances of making it now with warrior-esque people around?
Is it one winner from across all countries each year? That's even less likely then.

    No, each region.
In total of around 4 winners each year.

Also Australia is likely going to be put with the "other" countries, such as: India, Thailand, UAE.

Given our racing background I could bet a hand the Australian participants will be of higher calibre then the others.

I have done 8 laps of QR in the V8's. worst thing about them is the hand brake they put in the passenger seat.
I have also done a rally experience drive as well, passenger was good didn't say anything matter of fact he loved it, said nobody has pushed the car as hard as I did before. So hard we went off track.

But can't wait for my Formula Ford Drive no instructor just me and the car and im going to push it to its limit and beyond
