woah what a race. So coming into this race it was clear that controller traction around Singapore was overpowered. But it was just stupidly overpowered like woah. I can thank my podium to that to be honest.
Quali:
Solid lap at 4th left me with my best starting position this season after a stunner by
@warrior2167 yet again
Then came the
@seth123 storm which ruined a good hours worth of racing lol.
Race:
A solid start had me maintain position (effectively considering warrior) as I trailed
@its-benny-racer and
@The_Spectre for a while before SC caused Benny and
@N64TheStig007 behind to pit. Restarted second behind Spectre before a lap later.....well I'm not sure how to describe it but Spectre "gave up" the lead. Unlucky there mate. Lead for another lap or two before a stupidly premature pit stop began my poor strategy call.
(CONTEXT ALERT)
Prior to this race, practice had shown me that while a 1 stop was faster in every way, It couldn't be pulled off effectively on the controller and my tires were absolutely roasted by the end of each stint. The OPness of the controller required quali lap after quali lap to maintian traction therefore the 2 stop was the quicker option for me regardless of track position.
I fought my way back through the pack after the stop with some classy moves around Benny and
@Bryan_F who both gave racing room.
@Pringles_947 made life a little more difficult and killed the 2 stop idea as I lost crucial second behind him and got a little impatient. Sorry mate! Managed to clear him after a good run through the last turn and had a small touch with Jono is really short lmfao eyyyyyyy a few laps after getting by. Here comes part 2. The stop for softs was well timed ignoring all other factors. They had enough juice at that point to get me to Seth with enough to battle. However a very major and in the end costly error exiting the pitlane cost me track position to Jono and ended my race in the end as I was caught behind him on the inferior Soft compund regardless of my OP traction. I decided to just trail him for a little bit, praying for a safety car but eventually his tires dropped off enough that I could pounce. But the damage had already been done. A safety car still would've saved me and easily put me in contention but there was no way of catching Seth at that point (Plus I then caught that invisible wall that Beau warned us about
)
Overall, If i'd gone with a 1 stop, the advantage of the controller would've been levelled out as I saved tires (Wear was 2x that of Seth) and I wouldn't have been able to fight with the top pack like I did. The 2 stop meant I could always push and go ham on everyone which payed off with (what should've been) Second place! Well done podium!
